I find it hilarious that people think Nintendo is somehow incurring a lot of risk by releasing this. It's a niche product with an attractive price point that will probably turn a profit.
There is a lot of irrational hatred toward Nintendo that even Giantbomb can't escape.
In a vacuum, the gameplay is ordinary. Earthbound isn't about mechanics or graphics. It isn't tense or exciting. The game is about sympathy and if you can't sympathize with it, you're not going to enjoy it.
I don't buy many games or much DLC on day one (a handful a year). This was one of them and it was worth every penny. Can't wait for the next installment.
Nintendo's value is their intellectual property, not their hardware. The worst case, Nintendo abandoning the hardware market, won't affect their bottom line all that much. I don't think the worst case will happen however. The WiiU is a disappointment, but it's really not too late. All it takes is a few AAA games to push millions of consoles. If the WiiU is still selling 100,000 units a quarter after Mario Kart is released, then Nintendo is really in trouble. I hate to compare it to the PS3, but that launch was still worse. And with cellphones being as widespread and powerful as they are AND the 3DS competing just fine, I don't think we'll see them leave that side of the business any time soon.

Jesus fucking christ.. I knew the Patrick hate-wagon was fucking disturbing, but what the fuck are you guys doing??? That is the sickest fucking shit I've read in a long fucking time. This just makes me feel deep shame for himanity as a whole. The fact that we have this level of hate in us is revolting to me. The people who fling this kind of shit need to take themselves out of the gene pool, cause you contribute NOTHING to the world. Nothing. Human waste.
