@dogma: I know Kojima's said that he wants Big Boss to be more expressive through his actions and expressions, and the trailers have been showcasing some really great work in this regard.

But then we see all these other characters yapping away all the time anyway, and it makes Big Boss's new-found silence look even more out of place.

Yeah, I understand that and I am overall optimistic. I just find it kinda weird. It's not just that he's silent but that he just stairs. He feel very silent protagonist like in that scenario.

Really pumped for this game though!

I actually think Keifers voice works. I have no problems with change. The latest trailer worked for me.

BUT I have this little problem/concern.

Why isn't Bigg Boss saying anything during THREE whole minutes?! That freaks me out. Snake/Big Boss have always been quite vocal. To just watch him look at Ocelet having a monologue while silently staring at him as he was Link from the Legend of Zelda comes of a super weird.

Will he say more in the actual game? Are they saying actual plot things that Kojima wants to keep secret and therefore changed in the demo? He has done that before. Because imagine Snake being silent in a Codec conversation or any conversation i the seriers when engaging with only one other characters. That almost never happens. Snake/Big Boss may be a rough tough guy but he does speak, quite a lot. This seems very out of character for him.

I shall try to be very quick. This is some simple thoughts on what the "real" Gamergate needs to do to get taken seriously. When I say "real" I mean those that constantly defend Gamergate and insist that it's all about ethics. You can't continue to be a formless mess on Twitter or different forums.

1. Loose Twitter as a main communication plattform. It's toxic for your reputation.
2. Change the name. Abandon it. It's toxic and no one can take you serious which such a stupid name.
3. Establish a real plattform, a website, to gather all true Gamegaters.
4. Find leaders. Establish an editorial team made up of best of the best in your ranks.
5. Everyone else can be on a message board on the same site and even help out.
6. Write and conduct game journalism EXACTLY the way you want. You will probably get a bunch of readers directly. Grow.

This is the solution. Create a foundation and get accountability. Distance yourself from all of those who use the hashtag in what you insist is the wrong way. Then just critique games, journalists and topics however you want. And don't forget to abide to those ethics you all talk about.

Want to change game writing? Then try and see if a big portion of the audience wants your type of writing instead of trying to force other outlets to conform to your views. You may be successful, you may not but it's worth a try. You would give a home to a lot of gamers that feel that todays games media with their "agenda" are worthless. They are clearly searching for options. Give them the ultimate one. Take all those angry readers away and then people on all sides can get back to being happy again and play games or do what they like.

This movement isn't helping when it manages to take away income from other sites because it's a extremely selfish way to handle this. A lot of people like what Gamasutra, Polygon, Giantbomb, Gamespot writes. Why is your way the only right "ethical" way? People are different and therefore also criticism. Thank you <3

This solution is simple! If you don't agree or like what a site writes then don't visit it! Go somewhere else where you are happy and feel like you are likeminded with he writers. That's the power of choice but instead people want the sites they don't like to change to fit their need. Just move along instead. I have left websites multiply times for multiple reasons. It's not that hard.

I have complete understanding why game writers want to advance and write about more broad stuff after writing about all them graphics and controls during 10-15 years. Game writing was getting stagnant as hell during the mid 00. I myself have written about games for over 13 years. Variety is healthy and wonderful! Most writers also have a critical and creative mind and that is what triggers this new form of opinions pieces. We all grow up, we learn to appreciate and value new and more things. it's boring to be stuck in a rut.

But yeah.... just move to a new place that is the perfect fit for you rather than being angry and try to force change. It's just opinions duder. We all have different opinions :)

You might be under the false impression that I'm pro-GG. I am not. I will call out bad writing when I see it, just as they may point out what they find problematic with a game. Sometimes I may agree with them, sometimes I won't. There is no anger or trying to force change, just acknowledgement of bad writing and calling it out.

The solution I've come up with was to not actively read those sites or promote them. I've installed adblock for those times when someone links an article with a URL-shortener and blacklisted them. That doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to criticize them when I still come across bad writing. That's the other side of telling people not to play a video game or critique it if they don't like it.

Had to reread what you wrote so I didn't do any misstakes. But I still stand by what I said except you shall not take my response as an "Get out!". That was actually not my intention from the beginning either way. My response was also not directly aimed at you but rather in a general sense. I'm tired people just complaining and trying to force change (by making advertisers pull ads for example) instead of just moving on and find greener pastures. Life is to short to be hateful and sour.

It's absolutely in your right to tell someone when you don't agree with them. Discussion is great! What I referred to was if you see it becoming a trend and if that trend devalues the site for you in the long run then it's better to leave then stay put and just get angry and write critical stuff all the time. You can probably use that energy in more positive way :)

Also....I don't always agree with that criticism you listed but I tend to keep my mouth shut and not get to riled up about it every time. Sometimes it's a bit to sensitive but sometimes it's really not.

I hope I made myself more clear now?

I don't completely agree with you. I do think it's correct to report on some issues, but when you have the fifth article about AC: Unity on the same web site bring up non-playable female characters in multiplayer when the article has nothing to do with that, then it's not a positive change. When you have a writer call a developer sexist because they didn't include a playable female character in the main game, then double-down when it's pointed out that the main character isn't even customizable, then it's not positive change. When you have another writer call a publisher homophobic, and anyone criticizing her sexist or transphobic, then it's not a positive change.

[...]

That does sound like a website I would like to frequent, do you have actual examples? (five, at least?)

If it were only "a few loonies" then IT WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. I was getting harassed so badly for criticising GG, even fairly and with reason, and I just up and ended up deleting a Twitter account I had for /years/ because harassment and spamming got so bad. You block one GGer, another five show up drowning you out with screaming and brushing off all your points as "SJW talk" and then get pissed when you don't take GG seriously.

This is where it all collides. There is clearly a BIG difference in opinion. As you say, you get shouted down for "SJW talk". THIS is a very clear point in Gamergates rhetoric. Even if you read that list of things they back up and stand against you can read "No agenda driven journalism". THAT is SJW talk for them. This is a clear liberal vs conservatism discussion and that not an easy thing. Some of us think that social issues, diversity and deeper meaning to our games is the future and we want games that make us think or feel different things. Others want to keep things as they were. Some of us also want everyone to be included. The problem is that feminism is SJW talk too, something that falls under agenda driven journalism to these people.

It's so clear that this is what the bigger part are shouting about. very little is about ethics except for they people say so. They don't interfere in your conversations about ethics but rather social issues. I'm honestly "scared" to even write the word on Twitter because I don't even have to write the hashtag, some people are so notorious that they make word searches, find the word and then harass you or disrupt a "private" conversation with there BS. Everything boils down to SJW talk and our view of a video game community/world in change. Some fear change and others want it. That's the crux of the problem. It's not an easy problem at all. Ethics is NOT what's been pissing people of the last 2-3 years.

Also...you can read my first post on page 2. Thanks for writing the right thing to "trigger me" :)

Seriously. The label/Hashtag Gamergate is toxic. IF the real and true Gamergaters that want to talk about ethics in video games then step away from that name, for two reasons. 1) It's toxic as hell and you will have to do damage control all the time 2) It's a stupid name for a movement that want to be taken seriously.

Also....stop using that damn word; agenda. Really, it's so played out. Patrick, Leigh and all the others have an opinion driven by who they are and what they believe in. An agenda is practically an opinion. They are writers and write opinion pieces. It sounds so damn stupid when people use the word agenda as if it's some kind of mass conspiracy but yeah.... I forget these people just LOVE conpiracys. It's so much fun to play Internet detective and it's even better when it's for the reason to forward your own AGENDA, your opposing opinion.

Also...I really starting to hate the rhetoric used by Gamergaters and the vile people that made Intel drop advertisement from Gamasutra. I like Polygon, Giantbomb, Gamespot and a bunch of other sites! You say that you want to direct us to a better alternative....then do that, don't destroy the options by extreme measures. You don't want to give us better options, you want to force them on us. You want us all to think and act just like you. The whole movement is so up it's own ass and VERY selfish.

Yeah... that's that. I really needed to get that off my chest and Giantbomb felt like the right place to do it because you guys are awesome people! <3

Oh the irony. The site that used Giantbombs API to almost make a copy of the site is now complaining about infringement. This is just to good and dumb to be true :D

I don't see the problem with this. It's a fun and at the same time a great thing. It has pulled in A LOT of money for a good cause and a lot of people are much more aware of ALS. It's smart, it's kind and it's a fun and creative way of doing something positive. I think it's kind of sad when I see people just listing nominees and directly afterwards put a bucket over their head without mentioning ALS but hey... the good outweighs the bad, right?

I actually did the challenge myself last week. I have donated, I mentioned ALS and I didn't self promote myself (I run a website). It was also fun (and wet & cold) to do. My goal was to make something a tad more ambitious rather than just standing in a field/bathroom and pouring a bucket of water over my head that a lot of others did that got challenged among my friends and media colleagues. I'm quite pleased with the results. Take a look if you want to see what I fellow duder from Sweden did. You can call my narcissistic if you want but for a creative person like myself this was a great motivator to do something cool and positive :D

If you want to skip to the wet part you can skip to 02:45 (and keep watching after the credits). Also, excuse my stilted english since it's not my native language and I was in rush to have it all done.
