So unfortunately HDR on PC is generally in a bad place. My understanding is this typically has to do with there being several different HDR standards out there, and PC monitors not using the popular TV ones like HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. All the standards cause issues with actually getting your monitor properly calibrated and sometimes this can be messed up on a per game basis. Also the games themselves actually need to support HDR. Many don't. If they do, it should be in the visual settings. I think Hitman for example had a few different standards to choose from. Also it doesn't help that PC monitors often times have poor local dimming and black levels compared to TV counterparts. It's kinda a bummer tbh. I'd love to pick one up but it's still probably a few years until this is sorted. It's almost better to just buy an expensive Samsung TV and use it as a monitor...

I'm am genuinely excited. Last week I let my premium lapse after 5 yrs because I really didn't watch much any more. But man this is a powerhouse crew of creative people. I'm so excited to see what they come up with.

Whether you like Dan or not, he brought ridiculous levels of creativity his first go around. I view that as the pinnacle of creative game content for the site. He's willing to try anything even if it's stupid. I think that'll go a long way.

Also I feel like this is the right move for Jeff G. Sounds like he is going to be able to start to focus on the content he really cares about.

If you're interested in something a bit different I'd recommend the Cradle series by Will Wight. It was his attempt to write a Xiaxian series (a fantasy genre popular in China) for a western audience. There's 10 of 12 out now starting with Unsouled. They're quick and easy reads that start out like they're going to be generic almost shonen-like then really take a hard swerve. They also get better as they go with the first two probably being the weakest, but still good.

If you like the idea of a fantasy series with some eastern martial arts inspiration, a really cool magic system, and some ridiculous power creep then I'd highly recommend. The magic system is interesting because basically early on in training characters have to choose a "path" which is basically what their magic can effect and are essentially locked in to that type. These paths are where the variety come from because they can be simple elemental things like fire or some people have ridiculously specific ones like sword which is hard to explain but basically can make any sharp thing explode out slicing everything around it (leads to some cool stuff). Also a bunch of crazy stuff with Spirit like beings an cosmic scale forces thrown in.

They definitely aren't deep or philosophical, but they're a great popcorn read. Highly addicting, I read all 10 in a little over a month.

So I ended up seeing the Uncharted movie after a friend wanted to see it and to be honest, I liked it much more than I expected. It's totally ridiculous from a believability standpoint, but honestly not much more so than a Fast and Furious movie. Nothing super original, but I just thought it was a fun popcorn movie where the cast had good chemistry and is likable.

Personally I think the most of the really negative critic reviews are overly harsh here.

Anyone else see it?

Playing it now. Slow start but neat so far. However, this game is making me beg for some kind of fake speech sounds. Even a simple sound when someone starts speaking would be appreciated. It feels super strange with all the characters being completely silent. I haven't played any of the switch Pokemon so maybe it's normal.

So I just got started with Pokemon Legends Arceus and I am enjoying so far. However, man does this game look rough and performs bad. I didn't expect a lot considering the Switch hardware, but the lack of anti aliasing is tough and textures on main characters are super grimey. Despite this there's frames dropping in the starting town and it isn't even that detailed.

With this in mind, it is actually making me extremely nervous for Breath of the Wild 2. BotW has a great art style and did fantastic stuff with the hardware, but even that game struggled. I don't know how they can expand it for all of the sky stuff shown off and still keep it reasonably playable. Anybody else have this concern?
