PERSONA 5 WAS ROBBED

if it deserved to win any category it's this one.

Brad plays Hitman like my little brother drives. He hymns and haws and always waits too long for an opening. Honestly can't believe Brad or Dan completed their runs, pretty spectacular especially given the time away from the game!

Really want to try Abby's challenge. That was such a great combination of outfits and weapons and that wild card along with the hazmat suit requirement was beautiful.

Dan's run was super easy though, all concealed weapons. I think the hardest part was the bohemian, though that might just be me cause I didn't really fuck with that part of the map too much.

I think "Skinner Box" or "Operant conditioning chamber" should have been the name of one of these things, because that's the nasty thing going on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning_chamber

Would have liked something in there about how lootboxes are also gross because they prey upon addictive personalities as well. I've heard stories on here and twitter and elsewhere that are from people who basically talked about how they spent hundreds of dollars a day because they were addicted, knew they were addicted, and were basically unable to stop until they had to force themselves to stop playing the game they were dumping so much money into. Hearing those stories was definitely the point where I swapped from "lootboxing gameplay elements is bad" to "all lootboxes are bad".

p5 is my goty, and that sequence was ambitious as hell but i'm not totally convinced that it works

How did the main character in P5 getting executed in an interrogation cell not make at least a mention?

it takes way too long for them to explain it and it's so convoluted that their explanation is so detailed that by the time they finish explaining it it loses all of its impact.

Would have gone Pascal/Cannery/Route E with Cannery winning but more than anything I like the shape of this discussion, far better talking points than previous days where it was just who was most stubborn and going around and around in circles.

Dan picked the right one. Looking forward to hearing the site debate it

I could see there being a lot of debate, I could also see pubg just winning it outright.

Even as someone who isn't a Xenoblade fan, I'm glad there's someone on the GB staff who really appreciates that game.

I decided to buy it today after finishing the Quick Look, but will definitely play with the Japanese Voice DLC after hearing comparisons. Pyra and Nia (and most other characters) sound so much better in Japanese, as Monolith intended. It's an Anime-ass game, after all, no doubt about that.

I felt like you before I got into the game, but I'm 40 hours in with the English voices and don't regret a thing. The actual acting with some of the characters is up and down, but I appreciated that they tried something different with the characters than most JRPGs would have, where you get the same voice/type of voice for each anime "archetype"- shounen boy hero, tsun lady, mascot character, etc. I like the weird UK accents, feels like it adds something.

I know the East Coast crew doesn't need any help in finding new ways to keep themselves busy, but now I really want to see a Dan & Abby Persona 5 Endurance Run.

Seconded.

fuck that, if neither of them are that interested I don't want to watch 100 hours of two people going through a game they don't like. I love persona but the "I'm going to make these people play this thing they don't like" style of video series should die. It's not fun.

That's not at all where I was coming from with that.

I think that there are moments throughout the story in Persona 5 that Dan and Abby would find appealing. I don't think any rational person would want to make people play a thing they don't like. I also don't think that being curious to see two people's reaction to something they'd never seen before, to a game they wouldn't play unless they could make time for it during their work day is some sadistic fanboy fantasy.

All I'm saying is that if they're interested in playing, I'm interested in watching.

Wasn't that exactly what happened with the Persona 4 Endurance Run?

alright. I know there ARE certain facets of the community that do want that stuff to happen, that really love mario party party etc. Just based on how Abby seems to feel about it and based on what Dan said about it not appealing to him at all on one of the older Beastcasts I don't think there's much there for them and it would turn into a Beast in the East situation where Dan hated playing large sections of that game rather than a P4 endurance run where Vinny and Jeff were both actively interested in seeing that game but had no time for it

I used to like Abby, but these Persona 5 and Nier disses...

Somebody had to say the truth. Nier is good for other reasons. OST is not one of them. I also find it pretty "generic" as far as JRPG goes.

It ain't the truth.

You can dislike Nier but "it sounds generic" is a weird criticism of that soundtrack. It's pretty much unlike anything I've heard before.

Persona 5 would win it for me but I'm ok with it just being top 3. One of the only games where I actually sought out the music outside of the game, and I think it's coherent and fits with the themes/motif/style of the game as well. "Best Moment" for me would probably be the heist music playing while running to steal Futaba's heart. Running outside of the cyberpyramid while that shit playing was Cool as Fuck.
