You can probably run it on Low. If you want to make sure, you might want to ask someone for a guest pass so you can try before you buy. 1v1 multiplayer games are usually less demanding on your system than the campaign or player-made custom maps.
There are three factions: Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. In the single-player campaign, you mostly play as the Terrans.
Terrans are humans, with a lot of gritty mechanical war machines, like artillery tanks and heavily armed mechs. They're particularly good at establishing strong defenses, or making combined-arms pushes.
Zerg are an alien race of biological monstrosities, with an insectoid vibe and total obedience to a hive mind. They tend to have larger numbers and suicidal wave tactics, and usually need to secure an economic advantage to out-produce their opponents.
Protoss are a highly evolved alien race with a graceful, elegant aesthetic and psychic powers. They have fewer numbers, but their units are generally stronger and more ability-oriented, like the High Templar who can tear apart large groups with psionic storms, or the intimidating Carrier capital ships, which launch swarms of interceptor drones.
If you get serious about multiplayer, you will want to know all the strengths and weaknesses of each side. The easiest race to start with is possibly Protoss, since you have fewer units to manage, and they're usually more resilient. The hardest is probably Zerg, because a good Zerg player needs to know when to take big risks to build up a strong economic lead.
