@john_wiswell: probably got removed due to the massive amount of flags for things that shouldnt be flagged , like taking offense at peoples opinions ,the flag button wasnt there for 'im offended' it was there to report breaches of the site rules. and even then im sure they receive an inordinate amount of spam for things that they were already working on (preventing the forum spam bots for instance)
as for a superior option it already exists , message a mod directly , obviously this is more effort than pressing a flag button , but it is more effective
if anyones messaging you with 'pretty gross' stuff then please dont hesitate to report it via any means available
i think both sides of the 'argument' at hand are overblown
abby stated her opinions fine , even the "i dont fucking care" bit was not as explosive as people made it out to be, as for what she had to say about GoW, based on the comments i expected some sort of heavy handed strawman argument , but this was fine , she shouldnt feel that her comments are going to haunt her (unless she hasnt thought them through well , which she clearly has)
the people reacting negatively are over the top , i can understand the points but this is nothing compared to last year where i feel soem very poor arguments were made, and i dont think abby owes it to anyone to 'improve' her arguments , but she definitely has improved, and not acknowledging that effort is also disingenuous
as for the people defending her are also over the top in their rush to label any disagreement as misogyny , i find that stance equally as reductive , there will always be shitty comments that validate that opinion (and there will always be less moderated places that attract even worse comments) , ultimately people just want to vent , i see people here trying their best to provoke some ban-worthy replies , and i know the mod team doesn't appreciate fuel being thrown on a fire in the form of snark, so maybe just write a comment about how much you appreciate abby, instead of feeding the trolls.
its fine to disagree or agree , but getting as riled up as some people seem to be (on both sides) is not going to get us anywhere productive.

correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure you lose your map and progress if you die before reaching a save point in metroid and castlevania ? why does ben seem to think that no punishment on death is a 'core element of medtroidvania games' ? im pretty sure if you explore blindly and make no effort to map your progress , to the point that losing said progress feels like a massive punishment ,, as jeff tried t hint .. why is this the games fault and not the players for understanding the risks and scope of his attempts to explore every available nook and cranny?
but again i could be wrong , i could be suffering a mandela effect where my memory of those games was being punished and losing all progress and map exploration for dying
