I'm with you on that, Chaos Theory is still the best Splinter Cell game in my opinion, but onto your question.  From what I recall the PC version came with some messed up stuff (cough... DRM cough...) and it doesn't play nice with win 7, or any PC for that matter. Do the usual PC trouble shooting stuff first, like updating your video drivers and trying a reinstall of the game. If none of that works, contact Ubisoft support see what they can do for you, otherwise the steam forums for the Tom Clancy Collections may have your problem addressed there.  Posting some of your PC specs is always helpful too.
I haven't beat it yet, even though I use to be in your postion. The beginning was a bit of a slow burn, but it got really good about 3 hours ago and I'm really loving it. Even though I have no clue have far you are or what your expectations have been, I would still say it grows on you.
I can only see myself getting upset about this if Freddy isn't fun to play as or doesn't feel unique at all. If he's a valid, great; if not, he's the icing on the cake for getting 3 other characters I really like and would still have gotten anyway. Â Some people saying they're not going to download the update pack for him are completely within the power and justification to do so. NetherRealms could have made the updates mandatory, but didn't and this is going to be a result of it. When all is said and done MK9 is still really good and who's to say he's the last one anyway?
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, really got into it only to have my save data get corrupted, losing 10 hours of progress could never get back into it. Same thing happened to me with Fallout: New Vegas. I ether need to learn to make a new save every hour or stop buying Bethesda games.
Chrono Trigger When I first gotten it, I actually had little clue of what it was about or what I was getting into. it just surprised the hell out of me with a epic story spanning all of time and for the first time really made me care about the characters in ways I haven't before.
Woo! Just finished the campaign last night, clocked in at around 25 hours and it was great! I tend not to gush, but I figured some good "word of mouth" wouldn't hurt. Gonna try the online some more later and maybe contemplate writing a review for it.
Oh, if any one has questions or needs tips in the mean time; feel free to PM me. (On the game of course... yeah yeah I know, duh! But you never know.)
