So, yes, it's unfair to dismiss the game without checking it out, and yes, the game isn't nearly as "horny" as it looks at first glance. That said, there is also stuff like this:
NieR is my game of the year, absolutely. However, there are fair criticisms to be leveled at it, and the sexual objectification of one of the main characters is one of them.
I'm going through these old videos, and it just hit me; there's an awful lot of people here who don't work with or near the GB crew anymore. I really hope that some of them still pop in on future Extra Life streams.
@blacklagoon: You're not wrong. However, the only really bad call at a critical moment was reloading Mary instead of having her haul ass (edit: and also not run and gunning that other guy, that could have maybe taken out the disk). Most of the rest of their issues just tilted their luck, rather than fucked them. Given the one-hour-every-three-weeks play schedule Dan's got going, it's not too bad.
Thinking on it, kinda seems like, in contrast to the other two, Dan knows how to use Snipers, but not how to use Assaults.
Pre viewing: I'm one of those whiny babies who was really butthurt after Dan's last turn. I really do like the guy, however, I just cannot stand watching a person troll his team in a cooperative game (and the EC is definitely a cooperative meta-game). If there's more of that again, I'll be out, and won't be tuning in to the feature any more. Here's hoping Dan takes some of the criticism (which, to be fair, went way overboard from some of you guys) and tones himself down.
Post viewing: You done okay Commander Ryckert. I'm back in (But... what's with the preoccupation with former directors of the FBI?)
Lotta good soldiers dead today, but this was a tough mission. Mary kinda got hosed, same boat as Brad from a few weeks back. Just poor luck.
Anyone keeping track of body counts? Looking at that list of corpses at the end makes me think Dan is probably in the lead. Also, anyone know about when the Site Recon mission (the one in Newfoundland, Canada) pops up? I'll bet a shine that no one walks away from that one, and I'm kinda eager to see it.
Been nostalgiaing a bit this week, me. Going through some old content; I really, really miss Ryan. It took a solid year after he passed before I started listening to the show again.
I hate troll content. Loath it. If the punchline is upsetting people, I have no time for it. This is categorical; renaming the character isn't what bothers me (well, it does a little - an exquisite corpse doesn't work if you cross out whatever the previous guy writes so you can have total control). What bothers me is the fact that, to Dan, the funny bit is knowing that it'll make people mad. That humour doesn't work for me, same way some of the stuff I do like (e.g., extremely flat and understated absurdist fiction) doesn't work for everyone.
I come to Giant Bomb because the idiom of the site is, on the whole, good spirited. Dan trolling cooperative features is the very opposite of good spirited.
