I think after all these years, the GB staff tends to fall into this trap of not caring then blaming the game, which for once in a while the comments section just snaps because of pent up frustrations and then just forgive and forget until the next controversy.
Anyway, sorry I didn't mean to invoke the "CALM DOWN YOU GUYS!" to you strangers. I don't know you guys and you don't know me personally; just trying to cool down the temperature of the room, albeit ineffectively in the end. (ha ha) ^_^;;
@mookalhoys: I don't really have a skin on this game or this discord tbh. Also, I know what PC means; I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or genuine and Poe's Law is a hell of a thing to deal with on the webs.
Anyway, I tend to lean on the side of political correctness (shocking! nah, not really), but I'm of the mind of let minorities (which I am one), LGBTQ, and anyone who's been ignored or screwed over live their lives without hassle and harassment. I don't want to go off on a tangent and just wanna keep it simple.
As for this Dracsen thing, ultimately who cares, sucks that GB fucked up but like I said before, we haven't had a controversy like this in a long while and it's not gonna be the last. Hope they learn, but it's none of my business if they publicly acknowledge it or not. I was mildly annoyed, but I'll get over it since GB is not my only go-to video game site these days.
I know at this point I'm just adding to the cacophony of dissatisfaction, but I really need to say it.
Darcsen is not pronounced "dark-skin". It's "dark sen" and they're not even a parallel for africans or other POC, they're a parallel for jewish people. This game is alt-history WW2, and so much like during that time, there's a race of people hated by those on both sides of the conflict. It's sad but that's part of the point, to not shy away from the painful history by not having something like that and using "it's alt-history" as an excuse. The game treats racism towards darcsens as a bad thing, in fact it was the first game's B-plot(the A plot being "stop the empire" obviously). A main character, Rosy, hated darcsens but then overcame her hatred after bonding with Isara, a darcsen. In this game Raz, Zaiga, Godwin and a few others are darcsens. Godwin even has a squad story that deals with the racism they face. The game 100% does not think that it's a good thing.
Jan might have been able to correct Ben had he been paying attention to the story and not skipping it. And it's really sad that he does because this game isn't about teens taking down evil adults, it's really a war story. It's about keeping your humanity in the face of the horrors of war, it's about the attrocities people can commit when they think it's for the greater good, and it's about the bonds a company of soldiers have.
This quick look is just an all around bad show.

In all seriousness I think the GB comment section has been fairly "nice" in general. If some people think the commentors on here that are "defending" VC4 are being unreasonable or "shitty assholes", they have not seen the YouTube comments. lol
