2020 is almost over and I think the only 2020 release I played was the C&C remaster.

So what are all the dead MMO's that Giant Bomb has covered? I all of a sudden want to watch these videos again

Matrix Online and Star Wars Galaxy are the only ones they've covered the server shutdowns for.

Yeah, I hope they added it so they wouldn't forget about it, because they were talking about covering the shutdowns of a couple of other ones, which never happened.

@deadpancakes: Yes, that's it. I was under the impression that this conversation was longer. Anyway, thanks for linking to it.

Wasn't there a longer discussion about that either on the Ryan memorial episode or one of the episodes shortly thereafter, the one where Jeff was talking a lot about his early Internet days, doing dumb stuff on Usenet along with Ryan etc?

Quake 1 I think. That was the first time I was impressed by how they had implemented zombies, as the enemies that threw their own organs at you and could only be killed by explosive weapons.

I haven't played the early 90's game Zombi, but it seems kinda intriguing too, like a serious take on the Dead Rising idea (of course, that's just the "survivors in a mall" scenario from Dawn of the Dead).

@ll_exile_ll: Oh, haven't noticed that. I guess I usually only switch out the primary, for which there are usually enough bullets around not to ever run out.

Personally I'm kinda of the opinion that those games already feel aged. But, sure, some people would probably buy it. If they were super discounted I could possibly pick them up myself some day, but I only kinda enjoyed COD4, and was actively disliking MW2 and onwards.

@toowalrus: Yeah, it kind of sucks. I'd like to see all of your posts. The only way I saw what you posted (though only a bit of it) was because I went to your profile page... Darn.

If you know which person's posts you want to read, you can go to the "Forums > Posts" tab in their profile and read their full posts there. You won't see the context as in other people's posts of course, but you can still at least read that person's thoughts.

Of course it should be fixed, but you don't have to miss out on reading posts by known people at least.

Good to know. Kinda weird how lengthy they've made the process of switching guns or subclass if they are expecting you to switch them up for each enemy encounter rather than a per-mission basis though.

They really should have something similar to Defiance's quick loadout switch (accessed by holding down the triangle button and then using the right stick to navigate a radial menu), or the Borderlands and Elder Scrolls thing of switching between equipment presets using the d-pad.

I think the fact that you lose much of your ammo when switching weapons is an indication that they are discouraging you from switching weapons mid mission.

Of course they are discouraging you from switching weapons mid mission. You should have grenades/secondary/special with different types of damage and you teammates a different combo, you have to plan for the mission or change weapons and use bullet cartridges. The guy with the correct type for each enemy shoots first. Just a little coordination. It's more tactical than Borderlands.

Yeah, I enjoy the tactical aspect the shields add to the equation, especially with the epic modifier on. My current set up has me covered for all three shield types: I am a void walker so grenades and melee for void shields, I have an arc damage legendary machine gun, and a fire damage legendary sniper to go along with a kickass legendary scout rifle which is one of the few primary weapons to have elemental damage, in this case fire.

Sure, you have to plan for a Raid and a Nightfall strike and I'm enjoying this feature of the game too. It feels more of a military experience than Borderland. I guy carrying 20 weapons and having instant access to them with no penalty is just stupid and I don't really like this feature in other games.

Let's go back a few posts here, do you even actually lose ammo when you switch weapons? I haven't noticed that. I have of course noticed that different weapons have different ammo counts, but I think they count it on a percentage basis rather than you losing stuff - so if you have 300 MG bullets and switch to the rocket launcher, you have 2 rockets. Fire one rocket and switch back to the MG and you have 150 bullets (gear bonuses to ammo count for different weapons only change the bullet count that equals 100% ammo for that weapon).

As for penalizing switching loadouts mid battle, I think Defiance did that pretty well. There's a cooldown on the ability to switch, as well as a brief progress bar during the switch. You don't have to wait for the Destiny inventory menu to load, or wait until it starts accepting input (which it doesn't immediately for some reason). In Defiance it generally feels like a fair mechanic, whereas in Destiny you're fighting a bad menu.

@poortommy: Oh right, another artist who's been working with Max Andersson at times (especially in Bosnian Flat Dog) is Lars Sjunnesson. Not quite as much has been translated into English, and most of it is probably a bit too Swedish centric to work in other countries. Not quite as surreal stuff as what Andersson does, more in the absurdist vein. Some of his stuff has been published in the English language Slovenian magazine Stripburger, and they also have an interview with him on their site: http://www.stripburger.org/language/en/lars-sjunnesson-what-is-the-point-of-being-normal-in-a-world-like-this/
