I wanted to see how weird this journey could get, I think I was somewhat successful (but kind of got bored so I found a quick route):

  1. Charles MacCarthy
  2. Slavery in the British Isles
  3. Coffee
  4. George Washington (Inventor)
  5. Wyeth (redirected from American Home Products)
  6. Ibuprofen
  7. Harvard Medical School
  8. Editor-in-chief
  9. Magazine
  10. Computer magazine
  11. Rhianna Pratchett
  12. Mirror's Edge
  13. GameSpot
  14. Giant Bomb

edit: woops, forgot there was one extra step.

So, some thoughts on this: I don't have many because I encountered a horrible bug. Or so I thought. I got into the game and damn does it look really nice. The aesthetic of this game is really, really swanky. Props to the designers on this.

This is how my game time went: I get through the tutorial, and I'm plodding through town, looking around - oh the bus leaves in 10 minutes, I got time. *Maybe 30-40 minutes go by.* Hmm. Okay, the bus isn't leaving. Ah, it says here online that if the bus doesn't leave, switch towns. Alright, let's switch towns. ... Okay, disconnected. I'll try reconnecting - this goes on for the next hour. Well, seems I've encountered a glitch? Oh wait, they have a new posting: (I'm Paraphrasing here) "We are creating situations for people that are intentionally creating connection issues. Please try to connect anyway." ... Well that sucks. But hey, it's a load-stress test.

With a half hour left on Saturday I tried on a lark using a friend's PSN account, and got into the game perfectly. Evidently you didn't need a beta key as long as you had it downloaded on your PS4 I guess? I found a tweet on The Tomorrow Children twitter account saying something to that effect, and people were able to get around the connection issue doing that.

So, a really cool looking game that I didn't get to play much of. I still don't really get it. The minecraft comparison works to a certain extent where gather resources, build bridges, and eventually build up walls around important structures to keep the giants out. It seems like it's going towards some tower-defense gameplay, but to what end?

There's also two types of currency, one which is a form of tickets, and the other called FreemanDollars. The Freeman Dollarsallow you to instantly buy tools and other upgrades instantly without going back to town. They also let you repair buildings instantly. I'm willing to bet my bourgeois papers that this will be the purchasable currency within the game. Although it seems like you can find it randomly, just not a whole lot of it.

I kind of agree with how the other players phasing in and out randomly seems a bit annoying. I wonder what happens if you party up with people. Can you party up with people? Can you form a group so that you all remain on screen at all times? Can you customize the look of your character or does everyone have the same female model? (Not that I'm complaining, I had a nifty poka-dot dress) I still don't really have a good grasp of what the end game of The Tomorrow Children will be or what it will finally look like.

I am looking forward to more though, the style alone almost has me sold on it. There are little propaganda videos you can watch while you're on the bus - all the small details that have gone into the look of the game is impressive.

Hey, has anyone else got a notification about being accepted into the beta for this? Got it last night and I have to say: I'm god damned pumped. I've always loved Minecraft-esque games. I think what's got me sold on this is the style of this thing:

I like everything that's going on right here
I like everything that's going on right here

Anyway, what has me utterly confounded is the beta schedule times (first play times were 3am to 7am, PST). Luckily, the next scheduled beta testing time starts today after I get off work. The next set of play times are sometime Saturday morning. I wonder what the reasoning is behind the odd schedule. Anyone else going to give this a shot? I'm looking forward to posting my initial impressions up here! I don't know if you'll be able to actually team up with other people on your friends list, but if you can I'm more than willing to drop my gamer tag here.

Yeah, what @duhvinci said: there's nothing wrong with being aware of it. It's a good first step. Sounds like you should go see a doctor. They might end up recommending that you go see a psychiatrist or psychologist. That isn't a terrible thing, believe me - mental health is so important.

I'm not from Ottawa, but I'm a fellow Canadian. I'll gladly offer some advice.

I have a couple of suggestions. First and foremost: You should check out your University. Not for jobs (although sometimes there are good job offerings at the University!), but to see what sort of post-graduate support they offer. They're usually called Career Services at most campuses. The University I graduated from had an excellent Career Services department for students. The great ones help you create/edit your resumes, and even offer resume workshops. If the folks working there are fantastic, they might even send job postings yourway. Especially if you take the workshops, and get to know them. If they know you, they can send relevant job postings your way.

Secondly: I've been there. I've sent out my cover letter and resume to a bunch of places. I know the dos and don'ts. If you ever feel like you need someone to look at your resume I'd be happy to offer some constructive criticism (but of course if you don't feel comfortable sending your resume to a stranger on the interwebs that's understandable).

Thirdly: Career Beacon. It's a good place to start. You can see what sort of jobs are listed in your relevant field. Although the problem with Career Beacon is that there are probably hundreds of other people applying for those jobs posted there. But sometimes you get lucky - I did, but I also knew the manager through a friend, which gets me to the last point....

Fourthly: are there any particular instructors/faculty/administrative people at your University you're chummy with? Let them know you're looking for work! Networking these days is pretty important.

That's all I got for now. Good luck!

So, I have a little bit of advice. I had some friends who went to Iceland, and I got a few pointers:

First and foremos, say you're Canadian. They love Canadians in Iceland. A friend of mine almost got in a lot of trouble at a bar because a few guys thought he was American. I don't think they're a fan of folks from the US in Iceland. I know it's almost cliche but that's what they experienced.

Also, bring a map. A good map. And put the points of interest on said map. Another thing my buddies realized is that Icelanders aren't very good at giving directions. Either that, or they like messing with tourists. They were going around for hours trying to find a tourist spot, and they were given conflicting directions the entire time.

Apparently Icelandic hot-dogs are absolutely fantastic. Brennivin is disgusting. And depending on what time of the year you go: there might be perpetual daylight.

My friends had a blast there, aside from the two incidents I mentioned before. I really wish I went with them. They had some marvelous pictures to bring back.

Hey there friend! I'm going to go with @jesus_phish and say that Comixology is a really, REALLY awesome way to get your comics. Real convenient if you want to go digital. I'm going to forego with the usual recommendations (Saga, Sex Criminals), and pick out some things I think are unique.

Bilingual Robots. What more could you ask for?
Bilingual Robots. What more could you ask for?

With my first recommendation I'm going to have to go with We Stand On Guard. It's a fantastic book, and available digitally. The concept: 100 years from now, the United States invades Canada. Bad-ass freedom fighters, giant robots, and great artwork. I think it's utterly hilarious and fun. And it has the benefit of not trying to be political or anything like that (the creators are Canadian and American); it's an intriguing what-if story with an interesting premise. It's only two issues in and I'm sold. I really want to see where it's going. The world building and intrigue around the main character is shaping up.

My second recommendation is one I haven't fully read yet, I'm waiting for the first volume. Descender. Basically: after a semi cataclysmic event, androids have been outlawed. The story centers around one particular boy android trying to stay alive. I don't want to get too much into the story because the set up is really cool. If you're a fan of Mass Effect at all, I think you'll like this. Another cool space-opera type story.

Goon ain't got no time for your Twilight Bull$#%@
Goon ain't got no time for your Twilight Bull$#%@

My third recommendation is probably one of my all time favourites, this time from Dark Horse: The Goon (no link this time, because everything on Dark Horse's website is spoiler heavy, I think). There are a lot of volumes out there. A lot. And I will say this from the get-go: the art-work and story is a little rough in the beginning, but Eric Powell gets so much better as the series goes on. The nameless man, the Zombie Priest, has come to town to build a gang of zombies and take over. The Goon, mob enforcer, runs resistance to keep the folks in his territory on Lonely Street protected. It's incredible. Tongue-in-Cheek, dark-but-some-times-goofy humour. Loads of supernatural stuff. Lots to sink your teeth into.

As for superhero comics? I'm kind of burnt out on them. Well, all but one: Howard the Duck. Chip Zdarsky is the writer for this new run of Howard, and it's so much better for it. It really scratches the prodding-at-the-fourth-wall itch I've had that Deadpool just doesn't do anymore. If you're a fan of Marvel in general, this is a fun series. It's a comic at its best when Howard runs into other heroes. Howard runs a detective agency while desperately trying to avoid anything to do with Superheroes: but he just keeps getting dragged back into that zany world. The amount of digs Zdarsky makes at Spiderman is pretty incredible. He also teams up with those guys from that one marvel movie. You know, that other popular super hero team.

All of these have previews up around the internet, it's a good way to get a taste for them. Happy reading!

@lpug21: Hey, so I popped on twitter, and it seems like they're well aware of the issue. Supposedly it was fixed in the patch that just went live, you can read about it here. I finally ran into this issue the other day, and yeah it really sucks. But at the same time: they're a small team, and I'm willing to cut them some slack. Good on them for catching this stuff quick though.

Edit: Ah, it's live for EU only so far? Hopefully it'll be patched for NA soon.
