Persona 5 is almost definitely coming to Switch, right? Hopefully we get P4 Golden and some form of P3 at some point, too.

Games I Played in 2017

This list is for my own benefit, so I can keep track of stuff. Nothing is in any particular order.

Not counting stuff I put on previous lists.

List items

  • This game is fantastic, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. One of the few titles I've written a user review for.

  • This game is excellent. The co-op is actually way more fun than the competitive mode, in my opinion. In the harder stages, you end up getting on the same wavelength as your partner to the point where you start being able to know what you should do and what the other person is about to do without even talking. One of those games where you can really go into a sort of hyper-focused trance playing it.

  • I beat Olmec for the first time this year! I've now beaten Olmec twice and made it to Hell three times.

Before, I could consistently get through the mines and anything after that was a toss-up. Now I can consistently get through the mines with either a good loadout or stacks of cash or both. The jungle is always a nightmare, and since I've been trying to play the game differently now, either by grabbing the Ankh or going through the Worm, I'm still dying in the jungle a lot. Also, the jungle is just always kind of a nightmare.

But now, when I do make it through the jungle, I get through the caves pretty consistently and even manage getting out of the Temple with some regularity. I just tense up at Olmec and always die to stupid mistakes. Either way, I'm getting better, and I beat the game for the first time! I did it! I really beat Spelunky!

Completed on Vita, by the way. Which does have some framerate problems at times, unfortunately.

  • The improvements they made over the original are significant. Super happy with everything about this remake. Vitas are fairly cheap right now, if you've been wanting this game along with a Spelunky/other roguelike machine, it miiiiight be worth it to pick one up. This remake is very, very good.

I take no responsibility for any poor purchasing decisions made because of this.

  • This game is one of the good Tales games, I think! It's not as good os the other ones I like, ranking lower on the list of the ones I actually enjoy, but it still makes the cut for me.

  • These games are always kind of awful, but are okay as a "turn your brain off and do something without substance for awhile" game.

  • I like this thing a lot. A lot of people don't, but I'm way into it. It got me off of Tales of Link, which was an unhealthy and one-sided relationship that never paid off, and only seemed to bring me bad luck and killing me with power creep every update.

Fire Emblem Heroes, at least, fundamentally has gameplay that I enjoy. The gacha is also less awful than other gacha games, with better rates for good heroes and, after the latest update, an actual use for the bad ones.

  • An enjoyable Diablo-style game. It does some things different with the weapons and requires you to do more than just click endlessly or cycle through cooldown bars.

It tries to be funny. It is not.

  • When I heard this was a remake of one of the earliest FE games, I had kinda lowered expectations. Don't get me wrong, I love classic Fire Emblem, but Awakening just brought in so many elements to the series that I love. I was very worried that this would feel like a step back mechanically, given how old it is and how faithful FE remakes have been in the past, but as it turns out, the game Echoes is made from was pretty ahead of its time. There are more customization options in it than there were in FE7, the first one released here, which came out years and years after this one. Really enjoying it.

  • My family all started playing WoW. I've played off and on here and there for years, but never was that committed to it. I would mostly just level a lot and tell myself I was "definitely gonna hit the level cap this time" before petering out 30 levels too soon. With my family playing now, I actually DID hit the cap, though I'm so socially intimidated that I haven't done any raids or heroics yet. Very afraid of showing up as a first-timer and getting torn apart for not knowing how it works.

Anyways, from my skewed perspective as someone who's never played WoW hardcore before, this seems like a pretty good expansion. I don't really have enough context to know if it was a bad one relative to the others, but you know. Definitely a fun time for someone like me, at least.
