I feel shitty about not getting "Bowser Shrugged" until having to use Google. Do they teach Ayn Rand in American schools or something? I thought I knew everything relevant as a Canadian who has only learned about her through the context of American politics.
It's frustrating to hear Jeff and others shit on Shenmue without recognizing what makes that game interesting. It has a strange charm that other games don't by making it possible to interact with so many npcs. If nothing else, it's funny (whether or not it is intentionally so) and there's so much entertainment value there which should be the reason any of us play video games. Boiling it down to bullet points misses all the good in the game, so of course with that tunnel vision you're going to say the game is a "bag of poop".
Hudson-Cartier is the most Canadian name for a malevolent corporation you could think of. The one most steeped in Canadian history, at least. (Cartier was the explorer who "claimed" Canada for France, and the Hudson's Bay Company was the most prominent fur trading company/company when Canada became a country.)
