Hey, just in case you felt welcome over at Waypoint, you should know that while the GB crew was on stream Austin's staff/friends were repulsed by GB fans in chat for enjoying the stream and were mocking you to their friends on twitter. Good look imo.
TBH i dont really care what happens to devs that try to force games to be art this hard. This is another case of indie devs not being able to handle money accordingly. Thinking ads on RPS and some no-name PR company would increase sales is fucking naive at best in 2015.
Their lack of dignity and overall bitterness on Twitter over the recent months removes any ounce of sympathy I had.
So I think this is really cool. If we ride out these allusions to Christianity with the reference to 7 deadly sins an interesting thing to note is that the colour red is often associated with guilt in Christian traditions (caught red handed/blood on one's hands). There's a couple of things to back up the theory that if P3= death, P4= fear then P5 might equal guilt. These characters are definitely lacking the innocence of previous Persona games and have some serious criminal vibes.
After the MC busts through the window there is a focus on his red gloves. In the shadow realm cut-scene the MC's eyes change colour to red (also Anzu's change to green, which might symbolize greed and her clover turns red too, naruto's eyes turn yellow). Also on eye colour, the train driver's go white when he crashes that train. Still rolling with this Christian/colour theory white has purity/deity connotations so, while this is more reaching than the rest, this could be actually be an attack from a higher power (Nylarthetop?) after judgement has been cast, with an allusion to the "justice is blind" idea.
Every human character owns a red piece of clothing and if we remember the first teaser was chains tied to chairs with a red background. Maybe this could be hinting at redemption based character arc? Are they all guilty of something?
The velvet room could be the train this time around and there's a very prison-like vibe coming off it. There's red in Igor's eyes and given his Watcher-like status it would make sense for him to know your sins. Velvet room's theme is blue and the very last thing we see is blue flames burning away the red blood. Actually, just before he goes back up in flames, we do see Philemon's blue butterfly is back. The face that forms in the flame is very similar to the persona behind the MC on the poster and given Philemon's ties to the Wild Card this is a really nice touch.
I don't 100% buy into a lot here but I do think its fun to speculate and dig into it.
Also, if you pause the trailer around 1:33, you can make out different names of (presumably protagonist's?) Personas that are all latin words for some of the Seven Deadly Sins postulated in Christianity.
Invidia - Envy
Ira - Wrath
Luxuria - Lust
Superbia - Pride
Gula - Gluttony
Irritum - Vanity (not one of the seven but still a venial sin I believe).
Since Persona 3 was influenced by Greek/Roman mythology and P4 by Japanese, I'm wondering if P5 will be inflienced by early Christianity after Rome that flourished in Spain. From what people have translated of an new post on the official Persona blog, the creative director has said that he wanted this game to feel like a piece of "picaresque" fiction, which includes things like Phantom of the Opera and tales of lower-class citizens striking against oppression using their wits, which this and previous trailers have hinted at. Official Persona blog with Hashino's statements.
To the victims of harassment, silence is undoubtedly complicity. I understand not giving it credence at an early stage but as it escalates just having @patrickklepek writing news articles about the events is still seen as not taking sides.
I think ending with a quote comes across as pretentious but this one sums up the Golden Mean fallacy succinctly
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
