This is too much the best time to be playing video games! Too many games!

GOG.com is no more... for now.

Everyone who are customers on GOG.com probably know this already, but for those who do not: They have quit. Simply put.
According to their site, which now is down, they will find a way for everyone to download their games next week.
The story can easily be read over at The Escapist

R.I.P. Good Old Games. We hardly knew ya.

I have a feeling it's just a very poorly handled PR stunt. It's hard to believe they'd tank overnight without some kind of warning in advance, and be in straights so dire that they'd have to immediately shut their servers down.

They be trolling, says I.

I made the mistake of following GOG on facebook and while it's a bummer that the site is down for the short or long-term the amount of baa-ing on there is outrageous.

Ive never used GOG, but I have a feeling a small service like that would have trouble competing for publishers.

I read about this on bluesnews.com and was kind of surprised and not at the same time. Stuff like this is why I don't buy my games from anything but Steam. Unless they get bought out by Activision or EA, and they ruin it like only those guys could, Steam will most certainly continue to be the top dog in this scene. There will always be competition but I don't think anyone could ever take the market share away from Steam unless Steam itself starts to fuck things up badly. Too much of the PC user base has invested too much into their Steam accounts to ever leave it.

Anyway, I'm always sorry to hear about anything like this closing down as it hurts the PC community as a whole when ever we lose a fellow brother- even if I never had an interest in it personally. Hopefully this is just some marketing stunt to promote a site redesign or re branding.

As a lot of people predicted, this was a stunt. GoG just relaunched. As of right now, shit's pretty janky, though - I was able to buy Baldur's Gate a little while ago, but haven't been able to actually download it yet. They're still doing maintenance, I guess.

There is some crazy fucking rage about this out there. Yeah, it was a dumb stunt and all, but christ. People need to relax.

Here's hoping Steam buys them and incorporates all there games. There were a few games I was interested in, but I don't need, or want, ANOTHER place to try and remember what games I own with them.

Here I thought I had found people who discussed German CNC machined long board trucks.
I was shocked and now a bit disappointed.

But I agree that this  is a overall a loss for the gaming community. Gamespots Brendan Sinclair has many a times made the point that we are dangerously close to not being able to truly experience the previous generations of gaming. This was one of the better portals (as far as I've heard) and it's a shame that the the team quit.
