@slag: I've been on the fence about DB:X. How are you liking it? I've been curious about the multiplayer aspect of it, but haven't found much info online. Is there enough content to keep you coming back for multiple playthroughs or is it just one and done?

I haven't played many games that were released in 2015. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is about the only one I've finished and I really enjoyed my time with it. It's just as intense and heart-pounding as the first one, and the soundtrack is incredible. I picked up Battlefield Hardline last week to play with friends, but so far I've been regretting it. The game is just not fun, most likely because I'm four or five games gehind everyone else in experience. The learning curve is very steep. Plus, the TDM spawns are horrendously broken. So, as it stands, my vote is Hotline Miami 2, but that should change once I get more games under my belt.

Not sure...?

By that I mean that for me, I always found comfort in keeping busy, doing things I usually do whenever I lose someone close to me. If they need time, they should obviously take it. But if they are like me and keep going actually helps them, then I support them in that also.

I completely agree.

Dear Giantbomb Crew,

We, The Giantbomb Community, love and appreciate everything that you do. We understand that a devastating loss like this can be difficult to recover from and takes time. We also know that you are some of the hardest working duders in the industry and probably feel a need to get back to work. But we just want to let you know that we don’t expect anything; there is no pressure to post content. Take a break. You need it. You deserve it. There isn't much we can do except offer our condolences and give you the time you need to grieve. If what we have to do to show our support is be patient, we will.

Take as long as you need, and whenever you decide to come back… we’ll be here.

Love,

The Giantbomb Community

Not sure if next gen matters much to me. So far in the past few months I've had more fun with Monaco than anything else, and that doesn't require anything next gen to play. Though the last game I had a lot of fun with pre-Monaco was Batman:AC so more games like that and I'll be good too. So maybe next gen does matter. I'm confused.

Good point. The recent flux of indie game popularity has shown that it doesn't take massive open worlds, photo realistic graphical fidelity, and superbly detailed animation to sell games. It's interesting to see that graphics are getting better and better, but becoming less and less the focus for game designers.

Fully destructible environments. I want to see someone take the Red Faction or Battlefield destruction tech and find a way to implement it everywhere in a game.

Any other changes I want don't really have anything to do with needing new consoles. I want more games with strong stories and better written characters. Please give me more games with strong female lead characters. Or at least pull a Mass Effect and let me choose a female character if I want.

Fully destructible environments would be friggin' sweet. Maybe even destructible environments made completely out of next gen hair, YEAH! Now we're getting somewhere.

I'd also like to add that I'd like more realistic collision detection in a game. I hate how your super soldier badass that slays hordes of alien zombie hybrids can't navigate his way around a chair because it's an object firmly planted in the game world instead of able to be knocked over like the stupid puny chair that it is.

After listening to a segment on The Gameinformer Show about what some of the editors thought should change going in to the next generation of consoles, I’m curious to find out:

What did you see this gen that you’d like to see done differently? Or something that you’d like to see improved specifically because the current gen didn’t have the capabilities to do it properly? Or even a feature that wasn’t implemented this gen that you’d like to see?

For me, it’s a minor thing: video game hair is horrible and can make any—even greatly designed character—look completely unrealistic. Cell-shaded and cartoonish games get a pass because that’s a stylistic choice, but a game going for a photo-realistic design suffers from shitty hair physics. In stills, most characters look fine, but in motion the hair begins to take on a life of its own. Too many times in the middle of a fierce combat sequence I’ve had to do a double take because I thought some alien-like creature was attacking my head.

Do this:

Not this:

Or just give every character hair like Paul from Tekken - that's good too:

two words. share button.

i think i must have tuned into a completely different broadcast than everyone else.. or sony has just done an incredible job at keeping their original fanbase indoctrinated. the only promising thing i saw in the ps4 briefing was the witness.. which is coming to other platforms. sonys entire philosophy about the next generation is the opposite of what i was hoping for ... i can say that AT LEAST they arent going the nintendo route.

The share button is pretty damn cool. All the features they want to do with that are neat. So what were you hoping for? To be less in touch with your friends? By the way, the social aspect to the PS4 is optional. They're not going to force you to use any of that and if you don't find inFAMOUS or Killzone interesting, well then you suck. (I'm kidding.) But E3 is right around the corner so expect more new games. If Microsoft is going the way of "Cable box that plays Halo & Call of Doody!", then that's 100x worse then abysmal.

Now I'd like to know what direction you hoped they would go in.

the share button is like the consummation of the vomit philosophy behind the ps4. thats not my only gripe, its the thing that perfectly illustrates whats wrong with sonys idea of what the next gen should be. they think its about appeasing the facebook/twitter/social media demographic, and the 'mature adults' who are interested in serious hardcore video games and movies. a key word of their briefing was 'content' .. they showed videos of games that looked like they were trying to be hollywood movies.. somewhere between what call of duty does, and what heavy rain tries miserably to do... and yea, im one of those suckers who think killzone is manure.

also, knack. need i say more?

sure , they focused on games as much as they focused on the social media thing. but it was like they had these bullet points they had to hit, based on current marketplace demographic corporation business trends, not based on any kind of visionary evolution of the future of video games, and the great possibilities that medium holds.

we see one incremental step forward, but we are still trapped in a world of shit.

Well when a lot of your customers enjoy using Facebook, Twitter, etc., it pretty much makes sense to use it to your advantage. I agree that Sony shouldn't be like "Social IS next-gen" but what should it be really? I don't really care for what the next console ever does as long as it plays games. All the social things the PS4 will do like recording gameplay, livestreaming, taking control of another persons game, etc. is just nice side features for people to use when want they want to be more interactive. I won't deny that I won't use it because I will. It'll be fun. Yes, FUN. But continuing on, don't all game trailers look like movies? Yes. I was kidding about the Killzone part (Not the infamous though). I know Killzone has terrible campaigns but their multiplayer is always solid. Also, Mark Cerny is working on Knack. Need I (emphasis on I) say more?

I don't think video games will ever evolve beyond just looking better and being smarter(?). For now and the near future, I want video games to be the exact same thing as I'm sure many others do. I want to sit on a couch, controller in hand, doing whatever it is that happens in the game. New things like Microsoft's Illumiroom and the Oculus Rift are pretty cool, but I don't think I really want any of that to go anywhere aside from mods and stuff.

I like to think of it as a world of nice, golden shit.

It's fine for game consoles to have other features that might be attractive to potential buyers that aren't gamers; like social media, music, and TV. But I think the difference between Sony and Microsoft is that Sony seems to be taking a very "games first" approach, infusing these new features into the core gaming experience with something like the share button. Whereas Microsoft seems (again, based on rumors) to be pushing games to the back burner while they focus on making the new console more of a media hub than a gaming device.
