Yeah. We named all our ships as Ryan tributes then had a thunderdome/knife fight for the ages. We blew each other up to fanfare and fireworks (No joke. In game fire works see musclerider's picture). It was the best kind of dumb and it was fun and certainly helped me feel a bit better celebrating a life instead of dwelling on a loss.
I was really into GW2 for a while and I can still go back and enjoy it. It does kind of peeter out once you hit 80 unless you embrace a bit of grind. They do seem to be doing a great job of pumping out new holidyish content every other month. The community was pretty good as well. If you want to enjoy an MMO you gotta get in with the people who play it. And since you are here I assume you want to get in with some other Bombers. Right now I'm really deep into eve online. You have to pay but its also good for college because skill training is how you advance. You can play and do what you want to do when you have time but as long as your account is active and you have a skill training you are always advancing your character. The community there is also a blast and up for having fun and wasting time. If you have any other questions about either feel free to ask em.
Also the lore for both of these games is pretty great.
Hey! Congratulations on the new direction in life! I had a feeling when some of the hiring things went out about the same time you went on vacation that it might mean you were on your way out. At least you have a damn good reason! I came late to this site compared to others but when I really dug into giant bomb and saw how much you and the rest of the engineering team really cared about the site, and not just in a "we got ads on it and it works pretty okay" way. Its rare to find a site this large that has such a small community feel right down to the development of , often stupid but amazing, features. I think the community is going to hold you to your word about showing up. I look forward to hearing you talk on another dad cast a few months/weeks out. Glad that you got someone who will care just as much about the community as you obviously did. Take it easy, Dader.
I really like it but it feels like something is off. I think there might be one too many wheels for my taste. I think its the second wheel from the right just makes it feel too evenly spaced.
There's usually people online. Often in the mumble channel. Some people don't venture in there but its pretty active and we used to do weekly events before WvW became just a hassle. We might try to get back on the that train once guild missions come out. Who knows! but it has a nice core of fairly active players.
@jeffsekai: It doesn't actually really apply that much at level 80. I've got a decent build. Mostly rares. But I do fine.
What you really ought to do is level crafting as you go. Taking one profession from 0-400 will get you 10 character levels. I found that if you craft while 100%ing zones in your level range you move though the levels pretty quick. I say you should wear what you feel makes you look good and not worry about it so much while leveling. Keep your gear current with good stats/levels and don't worry about skins too much. You will outgrow them in a few hours anyway.
If you really want to get into leveling. Putting stats into power always speeds that up and vitality does make it easier to stay alive but as a warrior you shouldn't be having a ton of trouble there. Seppli is right about the new stuff. Most of it is not worth worrying about because most of it has to be tackled in groups. If you get interested in that stuff you should pop into the mumble. There's almost always someone there and we like answering questions.
Some of the storyline stuff is overbearing. (I think i remember doing poorly in that story as well.) If you keep having trouble I recommend calling in a friend to help. I had to do that for a few unblalanced storyline quests. Also, make sure your armor and weapons are up to snuff.
