It's perhaps not surprising that the dialogue around Last of Us is going the way that it is so far, with lots of folks saying it's tough to play with the current state of the world. That said, it just seems like beating a dead horse every time the conversation goes that way. I feel like it'd be a lot more productive to mention the elephant in the room quickly up front, and move on to talking about the aspects of the game that people waiting to play it may want to hear about.
I get it if the heaviness is a big part of the players' experience and they want to talk about it, but it's kind of a bummer that the conversations just seem so dominated by this aspect right now.
Personally I feel like I'll be able to separate a great story, even a dark one, from what's going on in the world, but it almost feels like everyone talking about the game are attempting to lure me into a state of not being able to enjoy it.
@jjweatherman: No dumbass, just the one that used a slur in 1997 in an attempt to be edgy.
No need to get aggressive. I was under the assumption that you took issue with the social problem as a whole and not just the one line in the one game.
@jjweatherman: The word shouldn't be there, and none of what you're talking about is applicable in this case. Debate is hard though, I get it.
You're actively making the internet worse with this type of dismissive, condescending response. I'd recommend not jumping straight to this kind of tone, but of course you're free to do what you will.
Do you really think games should be patching out things like this? Do you think books or films should do the same as they age? I think I'm of the opinion that works like these are representations of points in time, and they shouldn't be edited or altered to conform to the political correctness of any future point in time--that just feels like a never ending battle. That said I suppose in this particular case if work is already being done to the game to implement various quality of life enhancements, as well as general port work, perhaps they could have taken the time to reword some dialog as well. It is what it is, though.
