My mom called me up today to tell me that NPR Philadelphia was having a segment on "some gaming thing with women". She's not very thrilled that I still have a passion for video games, but now it's out of concern for my well-being. And I'm just like
Fantastic interview! The original Clock Tower is probably my favorite horror game. Bobby is such an unsettling character and gosh, some of the endings are brutal.
@spacekatgal: No I haven't! I barely had the guts to ask my programming professor to not call me "lovely young lady"! I admire you guys so much. I hope I can do a fraction of what you guys have done in games for STEM.
I don't know. I think it's neat that someone with a voice much louder than mine is speaking out against a lot of stuff that has made me uncomfortable here at GB. I really enjoy some of the content here, but stuff like the origin of "<>" is awful. People are still saying terrible things about Leigh regarding that bombcast (seriously, just look at the comments on the clip- or don't. Yeah, just don't.). Also, I don't understand the fear of "Giant Bomb transforming into Kotaku or Polygon". Does that mean hiring women or something crazy like that? (oh man that joke just made me sad)
Anyway! Thank you Brianna, especially for taking the time to chat to the GB community. Now I'm going to listen to that song that was written for Isometric because it's been in my head all day anyway! <3
Humble Bundle has a ton of games for phones (maybe Android only? Not sure). OLO is a fun 2 player game, sort of like shuffle board. I also love the Osmos HD port too, which is kind of a "get bigger than the other things" game.
@studibro: When I took that survey from a few weeks (or was it months?) ago, it said that 3% of Giant Bomb users who took the survey reported being female. THREE PERCENT D:
@gamerchicck: I'm studying to be an electrical engineer, so I feel you. Earlier this semester I had to talk to my programming professor and explain why him singling me out as the only girl in the class was making me uncomfortable. Calling me "lovely young lady" and saying to the class "Now boys, I don't want you scaring our girl off!". Yuck. He didn't understand why his comments were bad, but agreed to call me by my name and not by my appearance.
I don't know. Sometimes I'm so disgusted that I want to leave before my career has even begun. But there have been so many incredible women and men who have worked so hard to make the STEM field be a more inclusive space. I want to help others too.
