@Tordah: no kiddiing, i don't own a ps3 nor do i ever intend to buy one. I thought SC was a Microsoft exclusive title and that's why it wasn't on the PS3 upon it's launch?
@Xeiphyer: I'm guessing you failed to read my comment just 2 up from yours where I describe what I use this machine for and how I damn near tapped out my ram?
@TzarStefan: Why would I waste the money on another graphics card when mine is less than a year old and runs fine. I don't play games on it and this is a heavy worker for HD video editing and 3D animation / rendering. As for my cooler, I don't have the time to go and test every cooler under the sun, I'm not over clocking so this keeps it nice and cool. I took Maximum PC's best of best cooler and tried it out, worked great with out problems and it was easy as hell to install. I recently encoded some HD video the other day and it peaked at 21GB used, so yeah, it's enough. As for my CPU, I bought it in December for $250 (still cheaper than the new SB cpu's) bc of Intel and their Retail Channel pricing. Also, I had heard somewhere that SB wasn't launching until mid 2011 to late 2011, so I didn't want to wait for that and without any benchmarks to confirm performance at the time, I bought this bad ass CPU instead. Lastly, I only do RAID in an external enclosure for additional storage or back up, I can't take that chance that my main render and video storage drives inside my machine go belly up, once they get rendered and/or encoded, I back them up as a precaution because I don't have the time to redo it all.
Thanks everyone for the comments so far, keep them coming. Have a good one.
@Afroman269: i think, i may have to go back and tally up my spendings... - the cpu was a deal through intel's retail channel and only costed 250. my post above describes what i had already prior to building this one.
@animateria: i'll post another pic showing the cable routing behind the MB tray. The cables at the bottom are bundled up and zip tied bc they will never be in use bc they are all molex connectors and 2 additional PCI-E power plugs.
@Aus_azn: I have had better luck with the WD drives than others (knock on wood). I do have a Green drive acting as backup just in case and I will be assembling a NAS box next with 8TB of storage for everyone on the network. :)
