Games I've played in 2010

These are the games I've played for the first time so far this year. This list will be dominated by 360 games though as my girlfriend sold my Wii last year, I managed to break my DS  and the only PC I have is my laptop. You'll also notice a lot of 2009/2008 games as well, as I managed to actually have a fair amount of spare cash for the first half of the year. I'll keep adding new ones as I play them or if I remember any of the ones I forgot.

List items

  • I was never a big Splinter Cell fan, I only really played an hour of the 1st one when it came out and pars of the 2nd (or was it 3rd?) one in Co-Op, but I gave this one a chance. I really enjoyed it and it had a cool style, though it did have it's frustrating parts. The Co-op in it was really fun as well and that's always a plus.

  • Ugh. I love the Dynasty Warriors series ever since I played the 3rd one and I adored 6 (despite a lot of people hating it). Aside from the mindless, addictive slaying of thousands of people, the key reason I love it is the Splitscreen Co-Op. It's one of handful of games my girlfriend also loves and will even play it more then me. So without any splitscreen,I returned it as soon as got it.

  • This game. I love this game and everything about it. I was a huge fan of the first Mass Effect and this takes everything to the next level and further. I managed to play this game from 10pm to 6am without even realizing. It's also one of the few games I've actually played through more then once (I lose interest fast these days, so me actually replaying a game is a miracle).

  • I was looking forward to this one for a while and while it was great and all,I was a little disappointed. It was really fun, the story was compelling and I enjoyed how your choices actually mattered. It was just a little too glitchy and the combat really was grating at times.

  • I'm not the biggest racing guy but I do love me some arcade/kart/destruction style racing so I rented this one. It was pretty cool and the visuals were amazing, though the single player is pretty tough and annoying at times. I might pick this up when I have some free cash.

  • I also decided to give this one a rent as well. While it was fun as hell watching things explode and dodging said exploding things, it kinda felt like to me a not-as-good Burnout game (Man, why can't there be a new Burnout game yet!)

  • I feel like this game was made for me - I'm a Stephen King and Max Payne fan, as well my family being Finnish. This one of the most engaging games I've played with a creepy atmosphere and an awesome plot.

  • This game was alright. The single player was kinda plain, though I did appreciate all the little touches to fans of the series (maybe if I was bigger fan I'd enjoy this more?) but the multi-player was a lot better then I though it would be. Also, the animations for transforming were awesome (the most important thing for a Transformers in my view).

  • This game was crazy, ridiculous and amazingly awesome. I don't know what else needs to be said?

  • Look, I didn't like GTA4 (even I don't really know why!) so going into this I was really worried, but man, it is mind-blowing. It felt so open and I love how each area was so different to each other (I loved going from Mexico/Frontier to Blackwater and suddenly remembering the game is set in the 20th century). The ending was also great, it was perfect and fitting. My only real complaints is the combat kinda got old and the goddamn fucking-forever skinning animations. Oh, and the glitches that are everywhere.

  • Yeah so I picked this one up as I've never played it and it seems to be pretty well loved. It seems everyone is right as the characters are hilarious and the story is just great, also blowing up walls never gets old. The shooting kinda felt weird to me, though I blame that on the amount of MW2 I've played. The multi-player is decent too and surprisingly still people playing it. It also reminded me I haven't played BC2 yet as well.

  • Man, I don't know whats wrong with me but I just couldn't get into this game. I understand it's a good game and everything but I just didn't enjoy it or find it appealing it. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime soon

  • As a fan of Zelda games in theory (I've loved them all but only actually finished Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, despite playing through Ocarina around 5 times), hearing this game was a Zelda "clone" intrigued me. I can see the similarities to the games, but the combat and other features really make this it's own beast. Overall, a really fun game with an interesting story (even though I only started caring about it around 3/4 in)

  • Yeah, yeah I know. Late to the party with this one. My excuse is that I haven't really been in a position of buy many arcade games. Still, this game is mind breaking and terrific.

  • I really love RTS games, they are probably one of my favorite genres, even though I'm terrible at them and never play online unless with a friend. What I don't like is RTS on consoles. This is not an exception to this rule. It's especially sad as it's by Ensemble Studios, the makers of one of my favorite games of all time, Age of Empires 2. I hope someday someone manages to figure a scheme for RTS to work on consoles.

  • I really love the Watchmen, both comic and movie and I've heard this game was awful, but I decided to try it out anyway (I was bored!). Man, this game is awful. I'm that strange type of person who can enjoys brawlers but I was sick of this game around 5 minutes in when I had seen the same take-down animation around about 4 times.

  • God, this is an amazing game. I was kinda eh about the first game, but this game took everything out I hated about that one and added in way better features. It's also one of the few games I've actually bothered to go around and collect all of the collectibles

  • This game was under $10, so I picked it up. I enjoy the LEGO games, there simple and relaxing. Not much else to say.

  • See Lego Indy. Basically the same game, except with Batman stuff and a couple of minuscule differences

  • I realized this was on my 360's hard drive and played for about... 40 minutes? It's okay, your standard sort of puzzle game. I doubt I'll play it again or even remember it.

  • This is one of my favorite games I've played this year. I initially held off on it as one of friends with similar tastes to me didn't enjoy it, and I hate myself and him for that now. Another bonus in it's favor is it's another one of the handful of games that my girlfriend will play Co-Op with me!

  • I haven't played many Metroidvania games before but this game has made me a convert. It's fun as hell, with a terrible and cheesy as hell plot that adds to it's charm.

  • Another super-cheap game I picked up solely due to being so cheap. It's pretty good, the combat reminds me of Max Payne 2 a lot, which is only a plus. Some of the levels drag though and it can get kinda monotonous.

  • This game was the sole reason I went out and bought a new laptop (Justified as well as needed a new one for study!). It's as awesome as everyone says and a worthy successor to the original. I doubt I'll play it online, I'm not really into the whole competitive RTS scene. I can't wait for the next one since Zerg is my favorite race to play.

  • So this game is pretty bad but not as bad as I thought. I'm big LOTR fan, but my girlfriend is even bigger then me and demanded we get this game. It was fun for it was, though the graphics are terrible and the voice-acting is hilariously bad.

  • This was a really nifty game, better then I initially thought it was going to be. The story was entertaining and the time stuff was nicely done. The MP was kinda cool and wierd but basically dead as it took around 15 minutes just to find any game.

  • I adore the AA series and this was no exception. The changes they made really added to the game and I prefer the logic system over the whole psychic locks stuff. Cannot wait for the next one

  • An enjoyable game though the vehicles felt really wierd and the races weren't much fun. The difficult felt kinda crazy, vary between really easy to attempting the same mission 10 times. The multi was kinda dead by the time I was playing this but the games I got were kinda alright, the destruction element making for an interesting twist

  • Having not played a Spider-man game since 2 (and being one of the few people who didn't enjoy it much at all it seems), I found this one to be pretty refreshing. The swinging mechanic was simplified which I personally preferred and the combat given more depth with more moves and the black suit. The open world was nice as well, especially the way it would develop and change as you progressed in the story. I found the morality choice system incredibly dumb though, with some of the black suit answers feeling ridiculous and out of character. Why does a Spider-Man game even need one anyway?!

  • I was super excited for this one before it was released but completely forgot about it till around half way through the year. The SP was pretty bad, erasing the open level style of the original for a more COD-like experience and trying to ramp up the drama. The MP, on the other hand, was simply terrific. It really felt like a classic BF experience for the consoles.

  • This game is the opposite of Bad Company 2. I really loved the SP campaign with it's more serious, down to earth approach rather then going for the whole "World is totally unstable and now America is being invaded!" that other modern FPS's seem to love. The MP was kinda eh and felt like it for a different game, most likely due to the whole split developers thing. I really missed the slide.

  • This was game was a surprise with how fun it was. Ripping apart guys, robots and weird 4 arm mutant ladies while half your skin is missing was awesome but the game kinda went for a bit too long

  • I played the first Sims for a crazy long time but never picked up the 2nd as I was pretty burned out on the formula by then. After playing this game for 10 hours straight through the night and morning, I realized it was still the same and didn't want to play anymore despite it's addictive lure. The only issue is my girlfriend got hooked and constantly wants to play it now.

  • After hearing all the negative talk and criticisms about this game, my expectations were pretty low. After playing it and loving everything about it, I'm kinda confused. I thought the world and characters were magnificent and the hybrid action-RTS formula was pretty unique and cool. I get the feeling it was more the way the game was advertised then it was the actual game that led to all it's hatred and dislike.

  • The only PoP game I've played is Sands of Time and the way people talk about the series, I feel pretty comfortable with this. The art style of this game was breath-taking but the actual gameplay and platforming was kinda average and I couldn't really get into it. I wasn't even able to finish it, which is kinda rare for me.

  • Hilarious game with some archaic game mechanics. I liked it quite a bit, feeling like the old Mega Drive days but can easily see why it's not for everyone.

  • It was alright for a movie license game I guess, nothing terrible and nothing amazing

  • I have played none of the Sonic games past Sonic and Knuckles, having never got a Dreamcast or Saturn and then avoiding other 3D sonics like the plague based on how they looked and were received. I should stuck with that philosophy before playing this. One of the worst games I've played this year.

  • An average Kart Racer. Not as good as Mario Kart but it's still alright.

  • A pretty enjoyable shooter with an interesting gimmick. The jetpack gameplay was pretty fun but makes me wish for a new Crimson Skies instead.

  • I adored the original FEAR, with it's awesome feeling weapons, terrific AI and it's kinda creepy atmosphere. This was a pretty great follow-up, fixing the original worst issue of bland locations but lacking some stuff that made the original special.

  • I've had very limited experience with Castlevania but this one is a pseudo-reboot and has nothing to do with the rest of the games. This is another game this year that I couldn't get the feel of and was just bored when playing it.

  • Out of all the Halo games, my favorite was probably the original Halo. It was the only game I had for the Xbox for around 6 months and I played it too death. This is now my new favorite taking all the improved mechanics and shooting from the newer releases but the feeling of the original.

  • Like many people, my first NFS game was 3. Outrunning and dodging cops is always fun. This game is one of my favorite multiplayer games of the year and the autolog adds a competitive level to even the most simplest of races.

  • Fallout 3 was an amazing game and this ramps it up to the next level. Despite the glitches and freezes (I was lucky and had managed to get less freeze up and glitches then FO3), the story and world was fun and interesting. The gameplay, while still the same as FO3, was improved in the right areas to make it even more enjoyable.

  • I love these Mario and Luigi's games and this is the best one, beating out the original GBA one. Nothing else to say

  • It's a Civ game. It's pretty addictive and great.

  • I downloaded this on a whim as it's free, and I'll try almost anything for free. It's an enjoyable time waster.
