For the first time in a while I found this QL a little weak...
Feel free to check my comment history; I rarely post! :)...
The reason the map is an item is twofold. 1: It takes up inventory space which you may have to get rid of on gathering runs and 2: In later missions there is no map; you are expected to remember the areas fully.
The reason you can post 2 quests rather than do the same is that you can double up and share a lobby but go on separate quests; it seems kind of obvious here but there are some arena quests that are 2p only; so in a room of 4 you simply post 2 of them instead of one.

FYI I don't expect anyone to know the above and I have no issue debating whether those designs are archaic in nature; but there's often a lot of complaining about MH systems without trying to understand WHY those systems are there. A more productive debate is about whether it's a good game design from understanding why it exists rather than just saying 'it's bad because it's bad!'.
Anyway back to happy now! Always glad to see MH being represented. It is probably my favourite 'grind-a-thon' style game; and the combat never really gets dull for me personally. Though I won't be getting this one right away; I actually don't know whether I like the Hunter Arts or not... They are quite a big change from other MH games.
