" Starcraft 2 has been anticipated for 12 years, before the halo series existed. Starcraft 2 is more anticipated, Halo: Reach will be more popular. "
That's about right.   I wasn't saying that Halo: Reach will flop or that Starcraft will outsell it.  Just that Reach isn't the most anticipated game this year.  Anything with the Halo name on it will sell fantastically.  "
Yes, and obviously the people making the ads for Halo: Reach should have taken that into account, seeing as how "anticipation" is an objectively measurable quality. Every anticipation by a Starcraft fan is easily worth 2.33 (repeating of course) anticipations by a Halo fan.   Well, everything will turn out alright when negative reaction results in the sales of Halo: Reach tanking and those responsible for perpetrating this horrendous crime are put away for the rest of their natural born lives. "

But WAIT. If there are X amount of Starcraft fans anticipating, and more than 2.33X amount of Halo fans anticipating, then REACH IS THE MORE ANTICIPATED GAME.

WE'VE SOLVED IT.

" Final Fantasy XIII. "
This. I haven't seen a bigger non-entry for a big franchise in a while. After years and years of hype, culminating in the E3 announcement that it was coming to 360, the finished product just kind of quietly slipped out there without making much of an impact at all.

" I guess my point is anticipation is created by the length of time in development plus the demand.  Starcraft definitely has it since the last game was released so long ago.  Civ has it since it's been years since the last Civ game.  It seems like that last Halo game was released not too long ago.   Therefore there can't be as much anticipation for it as the other two.   On a side note, it seems like "most anticipated game" is turning into "game of the year".  A title given out to multiple games during the same release window.  "
Joe Public doesn't care AT ALL that it's been ten years since the last Starcraft game. You're measuring anticipation in the hardcore, completely missing the point. Loads of people for whom gaming is a quick distraction that they only occasionally indulge in will play Reach. Halo's big in the hardcore AND in the mainstream. Starcraft and Civ V are both extremely specialized, hard core games.

Sorry bro, they're probably right.

Even if they're not, it's a marketing tagline.

" I stopped doing quests after the weekend they came out. The wiki- trivia quest were cool, but everything else that was spammable was not. Which is what seems to be lost in this thread. People reference all the cool wiki- trivia quests, but forget that there are 35,000 + users. If those 35,000 + are all making 10 off topic posts, or making blogs and for some reason feel they need to attach it to the forum(that irks me to no end). The forums become filled with fluff and uselessness as people strive to attain a meaningless number.     Sure, it has brought for benefits like wiki-edits or adding more trivia into the database. But in the end, it made the forums a very sour experience because of dealing with people with no restraint . This is nothing new as these grievances were aired by many back when it first came out. "
As long as the moderation team stays on top of the spam , which they do, it's not a problem. And by having that quest, real users might be encouraged to contribute in significant ways where before they might not have. That's how I think ALL the quests should be, I don't see much value in constant scavenger hunt quests, though I'm sure they've done their part in generating clicks for Whiskey Media.

Ideally, quests should be used to leverage the user base into contributing and helping build a great community, serving as badges of honor for those who already do that, and serving as an incentive for people who absatin from the community to maybe get involved.

That's not really how they're being used, but that would be how I would do it.

@Brad: There's an EVEN HARDER difficulty level that unlocks when you beat Sith Lord.

And then you have to play the whole game over again to get that achievement.

Did they explicitly say that? "
