The only good movie shown in that montage was The Rock.

So you're saying that Transformers(EPIC) and Bad Boys II(WIN) are not good movies...? Are you on something at the moment that could be affecting your judgment?

Nah, I'm kidding, although I disagree with you. Plus from an editing standpoint all of those movies are spectacular.

Fuck anyone who hates on Michael Bay. He's been my favorite director since I saw The Rock. All of his movies, even Pearl Harbor, are awesome movies! I haven't had any other director entertain me in such a consistent manner.

I guess I should elaborate. I hate seeing Michael Bay hypersexualizing children's series with 99% CG scenes and annoying ass slow motion scenes where the sun is ALWAYS conveniently placed behind the character.

...but lens flare is so awesome! And he made Optimus Prime say "My bad!"

As someone who grew up watching the Transformers cartoon, the movie made me want to vomit I thought it was so bad.

Who would want to watch a crappy pansy version of Transformers? The way he made that movie and the way the military was factored in was pure entertainment genius. I'm not going to even discuss his cinematography because everyone knows that is top notch.

Something tells me you're too young to have grown up watching the Transformers cartoon...because I've yet to meet anyone my age who was both a fan of the cartoon as a kid and liked the movie as an adult.

Pearl Harbor was possibly the worst WWII movie I've ever seen...and the only thing worse than Afleck's acting was the writing. I think the Tomatometer is a good representation of the quality of this flick.

Well you just met one because I've seen everything from G1 through to Beast Wars, but I admittedly am fuzzy on the details. However I still think this movie was superb. There was not a single thing I disliked about it. Maybe you would enjoy seeing Bumblebee as a Volkswagen bug and Megatron as a giant floating gun, but I thought this was far more badass, and took a concept that probably would have failed under another director and made it work.

Plus the movie had a ton of nods to the old G1 show, and this next one will have combiners, so it's not like it didnt know where it was coming from...

I don't even know what G1 or Beast Wars is...but my question is, did you grow up as a young kid watching the original Transformers cartoon? How old are you? I can understand how someone who is between 12 and 20 or so may have enjoyed the Transformers movie.

The tomatometer is not an accurate representation of any good movie. Some completley bullshit movies are rated so high it's unbelievable yet some amazing movies are rated terribly low. Not Pearl Harbor specifically, but others. Most critics are snobby idiots. When a movie is good, you don't need for others to confirm it for you. I know people who are crazy about Pearl Harbor.

And you call yourself a fan? You don't even know the different generations associated with the series's long history... Don't try to say that if I'm a certain age that suddenly makes my tastes in movies invalid. Age is irrelevant.

I never said it didn't. I personally don't even like it. But I know people who do. As for the tomatometer, it's never accurate. Michael Bay get's so much hate for no reason, and yet his movies always gross hugely and are spectacles worth your money.

I'm a fan of the original Transformers cartoon, and my opinions of the movie are largely based on my experiences watching the cartoon as a kid. I think age is definitely relevant here, because my working theory is that how much people like the Transformers movie is directly proportional to how old they were when the cartoon was airing in the mid-1980's.

So, how old are you? I'm going to guess that your refusal to answer puts you smack dab in the middle of that 12-20 range. Am I wrong? I'm 30 now, I was six or seven when I was watching Transformers on TV.

No, you're not wrong. I didn't tell you my age, because, like I said, I find it irrelevant.

Anyways, experience and your taste in movies is subjective obviously, and I have my own subjective views based on my experience with the Transformers shows. I was a fan, and that movie helped me remember why.

What's your insistence in bringing age in? The question should be: "How many people were fans of the original show as well as the Michael Bay Transformers movie?"

I don't think people who weren't even born yet when the show was on the air in the mid-80's can be fans in the same way that older people can. My working theory is how living in that time and watching the show as it was airing in the 80's can influence one's opinion of a modern-day movie based on that franchise, hence, age does matter.

It's fine that you like Michael Bay. Personally, I think he sucks ass and is a total hack.

Wow...

What do you think the director of a movie does? Every thing that goes in the movie is watched, and then watched again numerous times over by the director who then tells his editors what he wants from them. He rearranges shots, chooses angles, and basically the main factor in the editing process. Sure he doesn't sit in front of a computer and actually edit, but he is DIRECTING his editors closely.

Michael Bay got the award for Excellence in Filmmaking, not excellence in Editing. There is quite a difference, that is why there are separate categories at the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Editor.

You really confused me. I was going by what you said, which was incorrect, I didn't get it until I went to the ShoWest website myself and figured out what you meant.

Reply to your edit:

FIlm making as whole entails everything from pre-production to post production. So while, I may have psted with incorrect wording, I'm technically not wrong. His award and my comments on it are still valid.

You guys are all talking about Pearl Harbor, but when I think of Michael Bay, I think of Armageddon, which is perhaps my least  favorite movie of all time. That movie was so bad, I really don't think I can express it with words. I mean, everything about it was just so stupid and overly dramatic. The Island was pretty awful as well.

All the action scenes in Bay's movies are GREAT. His name has almost become a brand now. A Micheal Bay film is basically a tagline for "this movie is going to have kickass action" have fun.  Now the parts without action just plain suck ballllls.

Does anyone else think they focused on the human characters WAY too much in Transformers?(I like the main character and the hot chick ,but everyone else was wasting screen time for what could have been some awesome Transformer action)

Good action scenes are absolutely worthless if they're not part of a compelling narrative. The great action movies (T2, Aliens, die hard, matrix, léon, heat...) are great because of characters, story and pacing - first and foremost.

The only good thing about Transformers is John Turturro. Damn, was that movie bad. Good effects, tho. : /

Micheal Bay mostly makes big fun explosions for sexually repressed kids who've lost their Ritalin

The man has some tremendous scenes under his belt, but good movies aren't his forte.
Armageddon and Pearl Harbor almost cancels out the awesomeness of The Rock by themselves.

MB is totally right. Transformers wasn't an offensively bad movie in any way, but anybody over 25 who were excited about them making a Transformers flick should feel more than slightly insulted that Megan Fox's hot ass, that stupid dog, Shia Leboeuf's stupid ass and cookie cutter grunt marines got more screentime than the fucking Transformers! Plus for such a "fantastic editor", he did the most egregious cut in the whole flick by not focusing on Prime when he said "One shall stand, one shall fall"
That's not some goddamned throwaway line!

Worse than the Transformer movie, though, are Transformers fanboys who feel that the movie is bad because it didn't do the franchise justice. That's even worse.

Franchise justice is one thing. It's a movie about robots who turn into cars for Cthulhu's sake.
You can't expect him to wring wrought melodrama and serious messages out of that.
But is it really that much to ask that a Transformers movie be about the Transformers?

Michael Bay is only good at action scenes. Everything else he sort of struggles at.
