An Option Select is a joystick or button input which functions as multiple possible actions simultaneously, letting the game engine decide the best counter to a situation. Specific instances allow only certain moves to come out, so you can worry less about your opponents options, and focus more on your own offense. 
 
In my second 3-minute fundamental tutorial (I know it's closers to 4 minutes, I really made it as short and concise as possible) I cover option selects in a general way that you can apply to any character. I go over the main archetypes of OP/SEL, such as Crouch Teching, Meaties (ground & air), and Buffering (ground & air).  Really busted my ass on the editing for this one, feedback is appreciated! I recently started being aware enough to use crouch teching...it's one of the many awesome tools you talk about in your video. Having it all in a nice format saves the time of scouring forums and reading into the technical crap you sometimes find on SRK.

I give you a virtual High-Five for this video sir. I'm not quite at the level where I can actually use these techniques (I'm still struggling to get combos down on an Xbox controller), but when or if I eventually get to that level it will be a nice frame of reference.

Nice work as usual. I kind of wish option selects didn't exist though, people should make their own guesses and decisions. I know option selects aren't perfect and they only cover a number of options, but they're still annoying to deal with, especially shotos with jump in option selects.

So what part of meaties are option selects? From what i understand meaties are attacks that you use on a knocked down opponent, so that the frame that he wakes up, your attack hits on the very last active frame right? This way he is forced to block or try a reversal.

Wow. Just read all that shit and Mihai, no matter how long he's been in the 'scene' or whatever is a nasty fucker and pretty ignorant or in denial saying that no one who's top tourney level uses this "fancy shit" when it's blatentaly obvious they do all the time. He keeps going on about how it's all about fundamentals and the top level players have both their fundamentals and "fancy shit" locked down.
