Played 2022

The yearly list of mostly chronological games played.

In order to show up on this list I should at least have played 3-4 hours of the game. Hopefully most will be completed, or at least with an indication of if i plan to complete them.

List items

  • Cute little camp building, exploring, farming and friends game. Not a lot of challange, but they are quite up front of that on the steam page, which was nice. Think of it as a stardew valley super light.

The music is nice, and a joy to hear most of the time.

  • Had originally thought I would get around to this in December 21, but got a bit of analysis paralysis. Not too sure about the school setting.

Heard some things from Alex talking about it, and will very much agree that Yagami is the epitome of mid life crisis.

So, did not get back to my PS4 for most of this year, and now SEGA has released it for PC as well so I might pick it back up... when I get around to buying it (it will probably end up on game pass as well, but I feel like owning this on Steam)

  • 1.18 dropped last year, finally got around to start a new world, and after a week or two of on and off playing I think i am done for this patch, the caves are ok, but it feels like there are way to many of them, and kind of not enough in them except for monsters and giant broken mine shafts.

  • There is a steam sale and I saw that I had this on the never ending wish list, and then discovered it was on gamepass. I kind of dug the opening, and the vibe, even if i did not enjoy the cover shooting as much. And then bam story jump and welcome to mad max, which honestly bums me out.

Had to turn off their camera shake, cause it was jarring to look at, like who decided it was a good idea to pretend the cut scenes should look like they were filmed with a mobile phone by someone who suffers from parkinsons. Luckily you can turn it off. But then I still have some weird out of order frames, like some times armor will shift around very unnaturally, and every time the camera changes it seems like the hair physics goes haywire, and suddenly people are caught in a storm for .5 of a second.

Just got to the first altered fight, and playing alone as a the trickster seems like a bad choice of character for me. Also not sure about the oh we just keep upping the world level without asking you, so you have to discover that it.

Finally not sure I feel like the shooting is very good, though perhaps I should have chosen a different class that was not focused on melee... which is on a cool down :( like cool if I kill people with melee or with the one damage ability the I get buffed, but then you are in the middle of a bullet storm.

Anyway not entirely sure if I will get back to this... Thanks for saving me 30eur gamepass.

  • Time to reploay Horizon I guess, or at least fool around with the pc version. God aiming with a mouse is easier than the controller, and not having to listen to a ps4 pro that sounds like a jet engine is sweet as well.

Kind of miss the HDR, guess my monitor technically has some kind of HDR, perhaps I should give it a go.

Just gotten to the trial of the brave in the beginning.

  • Not sure what to think... I find it a bit hard to keep up with navigating the environment at following along in the constant quipping of your companions.

I don't really enjoy the combat system so far, and just got to the first full 4 man team fight, which i promptly died in trying to get the party to do something usefull.

It feels like a bad quicktime event. I think I saw some options in the beginning that might make me set the slowdown to 100% which might help me.

The fighting seems like it is in no way tuned to mouse and keyboard, and I might switch over to a controller...

  • So far not what I expected, but it only just got kind of heavy. Guessing I am on the "default" route currently, but lets see how it shakes out, Only played it for an evening so far, so I'm perhaps 2-3 hours in.

  • Oh man, just heard a bit about it through the podcasts, mostly that hey secrets abound.

And WOW, i like it, found some "early" tech and I love all the weird shortcuts. So far I have rung the golden fork in the west.. but not the western bell according to achievements... so guess I will go back to the booklet and see what is needed.

  • Oh hey yet anoter game from Xbox Gamepass...

I was on the fence about this one, and wasn't sure if I would like it, which led to me not buying it last year when the crew were all about them bugsnax.

The game employs simple mechanics for capturing bugsnax, but doesn't give you a lot of info on how to catch them.

The grumpusses are a bunch of stereotypes/obnoxious beasts, that you help out with their various problems, which unlocks new areas and tools.

I have just gotten to the scorching sands, and I kind of want to know where the story goes, because it feels like it cant decide between being goofy and thriller esque.

  • Fun little 2d side scrolling platformer with neat combo mechanics and lots of upgrades to go through. Gotta get those stamps.

Having played a lot of visual novels as well on the side I really wish the game had a history log, such that you could go back and see stuff you kind of buttoned through.

  • Picked it up on sale, the tutorial/missions are the most fun, not really that fun to just redo a house without some kind of purpose.

  • Oh man the state of Zen you can reach while listening to a pod cast or watching something on a second screen and dismantling a space ship. Kind of wish i just took the easy option where your shift doesn't end after 15 min, cause man it feels good to break those ships down.

  • As soon as I saw Jeff play this I had a hunch I would enjoy this game, and sure enough.

100% aced (and a couple of reds), rank 1 and all that jazz.

I like the gameplay loop quite a lot, and the story was ok.

Of all the levels I think there were only a couple of levels where I thought oh hell I am so done with this level as soon as I get an ace + the gift.

The story is not that bad, though the characters are quite one note.

Man it feels so good to ace a level in the first run, or figuring out additional shortcuts. Though some of the time the actual shortcuts were slower for me to execute, than doing the obvious route.

  • Saw Jeff play a bit of this, and thought hey looks neat, then found out it was on game pass.

I tried the Escape Simulator, but it did not grab me in any way, where as this seems to have a bit of story, and not require too big logic leaps.

That being said, some of the puzzles are not the easiest when English is not your primary language.

  • Heard Zactronics put out their last game (for now), and figured I would try out Opus Magnum.

The game is neat enough, but it doesn't really grab me like exa punks or shenzen io did.

I feel like the solutions require too many steps.

Had a couple of times where I fired it up, only to look at the output required, and just closing the game again.

  • The final Zactronics game, available on game pass.

I kind of like the first game you can download, dungeon something.

It is Picross, but more interesting.

Though I am still damaged by playing murder by numbers, and have to unlearn those rules.

20th centry food court.. not a fan.

It is missing some kind of tutorial, where the dungeon game at least had the rules explained.

Not sure I will ever finish this one either, but I am guessing that is just how I play Zactronics games.

  • After getting my steam deck I thought I would give this a go, seems ok, though not sure if I will complete it. Not that bought into the story yet, and the kid just seems like he is being exploited on the off chance he can get his mother back.

Just got to the third biome aka the jungle, the difficulty spikes seems a bit harsh at first, but doable if you just keep to the missions so far.

  • Got this from a friend way back in the day, before I had started playing visual novels. With the steam deck in hand I finally got to play it.

Short and sweet, it reminded me of a lot of the places I visited back when I went on a trip to Tokyo during university. I kind of want to play it with the DLCs, just to visit more places.

  • Before getting my steam deck I had brought along my switch during summer vacation, and got through all the intro missions + the first level 1 mission or two.

Thought hey I want to continue to play it on my PC, got back home, and my GPU had died q.q

So continued a bit on my switch, and now with my steam deck I kind of want to move the save off of the switch.

Some of the classes seems like they would have been very hard to start out playing, I started with the hunter, which still seems like one of the more capable classes, and still is my main damage dealer.

  • Oh god, the sound quality is horrid in this, like sub 64kbps audio, add to that that it is mandarin. If I end up playing any more of this I guess I will be turning off the voices, which might make the game a bit to stale.

  • Got this reccomended back at last steam sale, and I didn't buy it, but as with everything old enough it seems to come to Game Pass eventually.

Fired it up and I like it, it reminds me a bit of Dark Star One and Freelancer 2.

I got rather frustrated at the first two rite challanges, especiallyas it restricts the area you have to fight in.

Otherwise it is fun enough, and I feel like I have gotten the hang of drifting and using my powers, though I really don't like flying inside buildings/small spaces.

The story is not that interesting, though it does provide some ok world building.

  • Another game pass game, though it runs kind of rough on my machine after my gpu died.

Luckily I got my hands on a 980 that I have loaned, and that should help out.. at least I think I have not tried it with the 980 yet...

It is fun enough so far, though I think it suffers from Ubisoft gerneric open world syndrome.
