Double Dip...

Ok, so I watched the Kevin Pereira video. So Gamespot gives it a bad score... Who gives a crap? That is one publication. IGN gave it a 7.8. Look at all the sources possible, make your decision yourself and rent, buy, or skip the game accordingly. End of story.

So what?

They made a less than great game, so what? There a ton of other better games to play. I really don't see the big deal.

At least we got an awesome video out of it.

BLAP BLAP BLAP!

BombWatch: I'm an idiot...

I thought Castle Crashers was coming out tomorrow, but it's actually the 27th. I guess I'll still have some Microsoft Points in my account for another week or so.

Nothing else to report.

BombWatch: Yay, Internet; or, Fire is bad...

Hey all,

I'm glad I can finally do one of these on a stable connection for the first time in about a week. You see, I have Verizon Fios internet and I've had it for some time now. The whole story behind this begins last October. You see, one night, after watching a new episode of House, my brother rushed down the stairs to tell us that our attic was on fire. We had a fan up there and it somehow sparked, igniting all the fragile material in my attic. So, for a good half a year I temporarily lived in a different house that we rented not too far away. It was at that house that we got Verizon Fios internet and when we finally moved back in to my original house, we brought all of that over. The problem was, they kept billing the rental house, and thus my mother never got the bills and the bills were never payed. They shut off our internet last week for this very reason and it took a whole week to haggle with those assholes at Verizon to get our internet back on.

While the internet is on now, the story is not over. Two days ago, the house next door to us burnt to the ground. Needless to say, it's hella creepy. Two homes, next door to one another, burning down in less than a year. Yeah.

Well, let's get on to something else, shall we?

I've been playing Bionic Commando all week. I got it on PS3 and I really love it. It's tough, but it's worth it. I did play through it the first time on easy, which in some ways is way too easy and also kinda hard. The boss battles are incredibly easy and definitely not as fun. The platforming stuff is still hard, but they throw in a lot of clear blocks that you can latch onto to make things easier. On my second time through, I played it on Medium and it's a lot harder, but way more fun. The boss battles were more rewarding, and I found myself getting better at platforming instead of using the blocks as a crutch, since they aren't there to help you. Overall, it's another great game in a month of great downloadable games.

And it's not over. Next week, two more highly anticipated downloadable titles are coming to us. On XBLA, we have Castle Crashers. It looks like a really fun beat 'em up. I'll probably download the demo first, but I'm looked forward to it. Next, on PSN, we have Ratchet and Clank Future: The Quest for Booty. I don't know if there's gonna be a demo, but I'll probably download it as soon as it goes up. Basically, by the end of the week I will no longer have any money in my PSN wallet, or any points left on my XBL account, and I couldn't be happier.

In other news, the PSN Video Store now has Ghostbusters for rental, which I won't be able to rent because I'm going to spending that money on Quest for Booty. Oh well.

I guess that's it...oh wait, I'm seeing Tropic Thunder this week. Yay!

Ok, now I'm done.

P.S. OK, I'm not done yet. I watched Jaws last night on HD NET Movies. It was awesome. It's been a long time since I've seen it and it's always good to see a great movie again. Before that, I watched JFK and then The Sugarland Express, both for the first time. JFK was great, but you gotta take everything in that film with a grain of salt. Sugarland was also pretty good. It was Steven Spielberg's first film and above all, it shows off his early directing skill before he'd go on to direct the classics like Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, among many, many others.

P.P.S. And don't forget to send me friend invites on either PSN or XBL. My names on both are Met2609, just like on here. Of course, you can always just post your names here and I'll hit you up with one myself.

Braid...

No tears yet, but it is emotionally powerful. I've only risked throwing the controller at the TV trying to get the stars.

The BombWatch Returns: Friends, PixelJunk, and Graphic Novels.

Hey all,

After a few days of silence, I have returned to bring you the BombWatch!

First thing I'm compelled to talk about is Braid, which I still haven't been able to buy. I need to go get some points cards or something so I can buy it. I'm running on down to GameStop tomorrow to grab my SOCOM: Confrontation preorder (which includes a beta key), so that would be the perfect opportunity. On the topic of XBLA games, I finally got the Wax-Off achievement on Geometry Wars. I still have three or so achievements to go in that game, but I'm pretty proud of this one.

Staying with XBL, I need friends! Well, not necessarily, but it would be nice to have some. I have a lot of PSN friends, but since I don't play online on my Xbox that much and a surprisingly low number of my friends have Xbox 360s, I have a grand total of 2 friends. So, if you are a good enough dude on GiantBomb to be my friend here, feel free to send me a friend invite on XBL or even PSN. Both my GamerTag and PSN ID are Met2609 (Isn't that surprising?). Of course, if you're lazy, you can just type your GamerTag in the comments and I'll send you an invite.

Don't be afraid. I won't bite.

That's all well and good, but what's more well and even more good is PixelJunk Monsters. Not PixelJunk Eden, the new addition to the PixelJunk series, but good ol' PixelJunk Monsters. If you've ever played the flash game Desktop Tower Defense (and if you haven't, you must, it's awesome) then you'll like Monsters. I really don't need to say much more about that.

Also on the PS3 is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which has some sweet trophies. I can't remember the exact number, but I think there are around 45 trophies. I have unlocked all but the final two, which are beat the game on Hard and on Crushing difficulty. I'll mark those down as impossible.

The last thing I'm gonna talk about is the graphic novel. I have read three graphic novels over the summer: Batman: Year One, Watchmen, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (in that order). I read Year One in mid July and I've read Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns back to back. I've already talked somewhat about Year One in previous entries, so I'll leave it there, but the other two need some more explanation.

I trust most of you have seen the Watchmen trailer floating around now. I thought it looked awesome, so I was compelled to seek out the source material. Needless to say, it's epic, it's uncompromising, it's awesome. The only problem now is that I am totally worried about the film. The graphic novel is damn near un-filmable if you ask me and Alan Moore, so we'll have to see if "The Visionary Director of 300" Zack Snyder can do it right (I really don't think directing 300 warrants the prefix 'The Visionary Director of').

I thought I had reached the pinnacle of the graphic novel with Watchmen, but then I read Dark Knight Returns. I loved every page, every panel, every word. I read it in one sitting. It's a great experience and it's probably Frank Miller's best work.

Ok, the last last thing I want to talk about is Midnight Brown. Yes, Midnight Brown. I've been listening to old episodes of The Hotspot for some time now, I've finally gotten to 2007, but I've always forgotten to check out MidnightBrown.com. I have finally done so and now I implore you to do the same.

Well, this thing has gone on WAY too long, so I'll leave you all in peace. I'm out.

PS. Remember to send a friend invite or write your GamerTag/PSN ID below. Remember, I won't bite.

BombWatch: Ride the Express; or, Damn you Braid!

The multiple titles have returned.

So, I'm just gonna get right into it. I saw Pineapple Express today. It was damn funny. How would I rank it with other Judd Apatow films? I would say it's better than Superbad, but slightly below Knocked Up in terms of hilarity. James Franco was awesome in it. It's hard to believe he was the same guy who played Harry Osbourne in Spider-Man. In terms of a numerical rating, like I've seen on the various blogs on this site...well, I don't use the 1-10 scale. I like the traditional four star movie scale. I'd probably give it a good 3 out of 4 stars, maybe a 3.5 out of 4. I'll need to think about it a bit, but it's totally worth seeing either way.

Also, I'm pissed off at Braid, that new Xbox Live Arcade game. Not because it's bad, quite the contrary, it's totally damn awesome. The problem is that it's $15! Why the hell would you sell it for $15. With other awesome games selling for less, it may get lost in the shuffle, which is a shame because, as I said before, it was awesome. I currently have less than 1200 MS points so I can't buy it anyway, but with Bionic Commando coming out next week, I might need to skip it, which would be a shame.

The last thing I'm gonna say before I do other things, like listen to the latest Bombcast, is that I finally started reading Watchmen. It's awesome, end of story.

That's pretty much it. I'm out.

BombWatch: Finished Uncharted, but not finished with it

Hi there! Welcome back to the nightly extravaganza that is the BombWatch.

The biggest thing up with me right now is that I finally completed another playthrough of Uncharted. I got a good amount of trophies along the way, including the one for getting all of the treasures. I beat it on normal, so I got both the silver trophy for beating the game on easy and the gold trophy for beating it on hard. I'm probably gonna start another playthrough on easy just so I can get some of the trophies I missed. The one that comes to mind is "Survivor", which is what you get when you kill 50 dudes in a row without dying. That should be a little easier to get this time around.

Also, since there isn't really one game that all of my PSN friends are playing online, a couple of us decided to get a game of CoD4 going. I haven't played that game online since last year and I was pleasantly surprised that I actually did pretty good. It's also kinda pathetic that I'm still only ranked 21 when everybody else has already gone through the prestige mode multiple times. Whatever.

All that Uncharted and CoD4 has kept me from reading Watchmen, so I hope I can pick it up after this blog entry. But I was also thinking about listening to the Bombcast, which went up tonight and I almost forgot about. Of course, I'm still plowing through old episodes of the Hotspot. It was easy when they were only 15 minutes long, back in 2005. But as time goes on, they get longer. I'm right about at the end of 2006 and each episode is usually between 50 minutes and one hour.

I guess I better get on that. Until next time...

See you on the boards,

Edit: I guess the Bombcast hasn't gone up yet. Every Tuesday night, my ass. Just kidding guys. You can put it up whenever you want.
