Games completed in 2011

From January - December, here is the list of games I completed in 2011.

List items

  • A very big disappointment for a franchise that I wish would try a little harder to inovate instead of hand hold.

  • It's Call of Duty...you shoot people...there's a story in it somewhere, and it's a grossly over rated franchise.

  • A great addition to the series that continues to make Ezio one of the coolest assassins in fiction - and yes - he's better then Altair.

  • Being a fan of the anime I played this game while watching so i had to have regular breaks where I'd catch up to the story and where i was at in the anime. It looks like the anime and is fun as hell to play.

  • Throwing subtle scares out the window i found myself narrowing my eyes and screaming "C'mon!" as far to many aliens popped out of the air vents around me to say 'hi'. Still a great addition to the series - I just wish they hadn't set up another sequel in the final minutes of the game.

  • A game that was cheap to buy. And for a cheap game - it was pretty good fun. Think modern day spin on dirty harry and give him a bad ass canine companion that seems to REALLY like to bite criminals in the junk.

  • Proving that dick jokes can be funny, bulletstorm was a great experience for both its jokes and its gameplay.

  • Haters gonna hate. I know, i know. It wasn't what people wanted from the franchise but i still think Dragon age 2 was a great game. It added some well written and well designed companions and for me to start a second playthrough not that long ago and still love it...it's testiment that although different it still has its merits as an RPG.

  • Squid! Squid are everywhere! Admitedly I was at a handicap when playing this game as I had 0 experience with the original - meaning i had no idea what the hell was going on. Not to mention i was very taken a back that we had a silent protagonist in this day and age...even with guns pointed directly at his face at point blank range - silence...

  • In my opinion a better representation of an open world game then LA Noire. If you wanna be's a wise guy - this is the game to play. Least there was more to do in the city then look for film reels.

  • Sometimes a joy and sometimes a chore - Yakuza 4 is that crazy mafia simulator from SEGA. Having only played Yakuza 3 and 4 i still love the franchise and i dread to think how many hours i dumped into this game. Least it had an epic ending.

  • One of the biggest disappointments of 2011 in my opinion. Some will disagree and others won't. I was really excited to play LA Noire - and admitedly the face tech is amazing. But there was just nothing to do. It was a ghost town in which i could drive. Take a leaf from red dead's book of what to put in an open world game.

  • A great addition to the franchise and one that actually made me feel like a super hero. I was a big fan of the original Infamous and with moral choices and a great story, this follow up had all the right moves.

  • I wasn't sure what to expect upon popping this game into my xbox. I was pleasantly surprised to find a crazy trip to hell that was at times genuinely funny and an overall fun experience that sadly a majoirty of gamers missed.

  • With No More Heroes seeing a release on the PS3 i picked it up as i had always been envious of the Wii's wild child game from Suda 51. Flawed in some respects and fun in others, I'd certainly welcome a chance to play the sequal on the PS3 - here's hoping it sees a release in 2012.

  • Great gameplay, great graphics, great music, great narration, just all around great. This best downloadable game of 2011, and one that even up staged full price retail games. Get it - love it.

  • (My game of the year 2010) Replayed as i wanted to have all my team survive. Unfortunately I had one casualty in my original playthrough - thankfully we all made it and even got to experience the added DLC that had come out, with Lair of the Shadow broker being a great and welcome addition to the story. Bring on ME3!

  • Questionable endings aside - Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a great game. Playing as a cyber punk bad ass with a hankering for energy bars, Adam Jensen gave players a great main character for a fantastic and lengthy game experience. Any game that lets me punch a bouncer in the face after he asks to see my invitation is alright in my book.

  • Replayed in prepration for Arkham City, i found myself surprised with how much shorter the game felt a second time around. Still a great experience and a great combat engine that offers gamers that nearest possible experience to being the bat.

  • Long had this sat on my shelf half completed. So i leaped back in to be confused by the story and generally got the feeling Lara had formed a girl band way back when and the group had a falling out...that explains her evil twin and the chick with wings....riiight?

  • It felt much like Gears 1 and 2. No barriers were broken and the game offered a fun enough time but generally - i'm glad to see the franchise come to a close...although i bet we see another in the future.

  • Firstly - this game has beautiful music. It felt like playing through some kind of old folk tale with some great surprises for those that are willing to replay the game after the initial completion. I felt a little out of my depth at times but grew to love the game and really wanted to see how the story finished.

  • I am Batman! Dam riddler and his 400+ trophies, I will get them - I WILL CATCH YOU! Taking everything that worked and making it better from Arkham Asylum. Arkham City expands on the already amazing foundation and even makes that fighting engine even more amazing.

  • Another stop and start playthough as i watched the series along side playing and had to take regular breaks so as not to ruin the story of the anime. This game improves on the original and even expands to online which can be seen as both good and bad. Good if you get to fight decent players. But the world of ranked matches is plagued with cheap bastards that are happy to spam or have cheap tactics in order to win. Still a great game and great to look at to boot.

  • Best multiplayer of the year. Battlefield 3 and me have spent a good 30 hours together in the multiplayer and i can see that continuing to rise in the future. The single player is alright - but if you're buying this for the single player - you're buying it for all the wrong reasons, soldier.

  • A great addition to the franchise, the witty banter between the cast would be enough to make this one of the best games of the year. But add in epic cinematic moments, gorgeous locations and great gameplay and you're onto a winner.

  • I didn't want to love this game. But the more i saw the more i wanted to try it out. In the last week having played this for over 20 hours...yes its good. There are some areas that seem lacking but overall this is how you make an open world game. Plenty to see, plenty to do and flying motorcycles...need i say anymore?
