2015 GOTY!

This is my 2015 Game of the Year list! I've tried to include a little about my impressions of each game.

List items

  • Amytime I fire up my PS4 I'll probably see Rocket League before I can start a game and then I won't play anything else for several hours. I've played hundreds of hours of Rocket League so far. Most Friday nights I drive an hour to sit with a couple of buddies and play Rocket League. I haven't actually finished half of the games on this list because of Rocket League. Frankly, I'm a little upset that I spent time writing this list instead of playing more Rocket League.

  • I love the Metal Gear Solid games. I've played them all several times and watched Drew and Dan work through them leading up to The Phantom Pain's release. I thought the story presented here was atrocious. It is far and away the worst ever told in the series...but I didn't care. The gameplay is just too much fun to care. You could have told me the Patriots were all really Martians and Big Boss changed his name to Sir PoopyPants and I wouldn't have cared as long I still got to fulton every dude I saw. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go fire up my PS4 and fulton a few things to get my fix...

  • Here's the thing about Super Mario Maker. I've played a ton of it but the amount I have played pales in comparison to the amount I've watched other people play on different streams. Most of my time has been watching Mario Maker Mornings. If you aren't watching Patrick Klepek play SMM your missing some great entertainment. His rivalry with Dan Ryckert might be my gaming highlight of 2015. I can only imagine what we are going to see come out of this game in the coming years. This is also my pick for the Giant Bomb GOTY this year. I'll be shocked if they pick something else.(And it will be Brad's fault.)

  • The Souls games have become my all time favorite game series. Bloodborne was a great addition to the family. I only wish I was a little better at Bloodborne.

  • I still need to spend more time with the Witcher 3. It's so good I keep putting it off. I convince myself to wait for a time I can more fully focus on the game. In the end I'll probably end up putting most of time in a year or even two after it's original release. But then, isn't that perfect time to play a Projekt Red game?

  • I've played about 20 hours of Fallout 4 which in most Bethesda games is about the time I start over and play "for real". I'll be playing Fallout 4 off and on throughout a lot of 2016, I'm sure. That's good enough for me to give it the number 5 spot on my 2015 list.

  • I'm going to be honest. I've only played 4 or 5 hours of RoTR but it's been such a great ride so far I placed it above 3 other games on my list. I'll finish it and probably never touch it again but I bet I have a huge grin on my face for the remainder of the time it takes to complete the game.

  • I've still never encountered better battles than the ones I fight in Halo games and this entry was no exception. I found the Forerunners boring in Halo 4 but enjoyed the weapons and enemies a bit more this time. The ending was a let down but that is kind of par for the course in the Halo series now.

  • Delightful. That is the word I would use to describe Grow Home. This was a good game to relax and play when I wanted to shut my brain off. It had it's frustrating moments but I grew attached to the tiny world you climbed up to reach your ship.

  • I like Batman. I like the Batmobile. <ost people seemed to complain about the Batmobile sections of the game but I enjoyed them greatly. I was definitely done with the mechanic by the end of the game but added a great deal of enjoyment to my experience with the game.
