You mean your sister erases your Pokemon Yellow save that you spent nearly a year collecting and perfecting the ultimate squad of monsters that could destroy any other kid on the playgrounds meager team. The same Pokemon Yellow that you waited 90 minutes at a Toys R Us to acquire Mew and sent your game to Nintendo Power to receive a surfing Pikachu. I had a fucking Surfing Pikachu it was all gone. I still get pissed thinking about it.

Believe it or not, that's the first time I've ever seen Yellow's surfing pikachu minigame.
From 3rd gen onwards (dunno about black/white) the game media has had enough space on it for two saves, but that second save slot is used as a backup. That being said, Pokemon isn't the only portable game out there in this day and age that has only one save slot. Looking at my DS collection alone I also see games like my entire Ace Attorney collection, The World Ends With You, Ghost Trick, and Mariokart DS are also guilty of the single file blues.

Well... not really a newbie, but I've been hanging around and have gotten to like the site so I thought I'd start to get a bit more involved in the community.
Right now, maybe I'm the perfect example of an adult gamer that's also a loser in a sense. (Except for the fact that I live in Canada; That makes me awesome. :P) I'm 26 years old and I've pretty much been gaming from the 2600 onwards. I generally only call myself an enthusiast because although I like to play, I'm not all that good.

+1 to that. It takes away a lot of the stress and confusion for new players though it also sacrifices familiar territory for the vets, but even still it's not much different than when starting out in a new generation.
Though, I've been finding my brain can't take much more pokemon. :( Still, go for it. The game hasn't changed much but you're bound to like something in this game.
A lot of people have mentioned that they aren't really a fan of the new music and that it doesn't sound all the pokemon-ish.
I tend to disagree. I think it goes well with the new style and I've probably listened to the soundtrack more than I have any other game. It's pretty good.
I went black; If not only because it's a dark color, but because for whatever reason I've always picked the first version listed in each set of games. (Red for 1st gen, Gold for 2nd, Ruby and FireRed for 3rd, Diamond and HeartGold for 4th.)
