I was on holiday when all the GotY stuff came out so I've only now just gotten through it all and boy was it a slog to get through. I think I only carried on due to habit and I hope they change things up for 2018. Having these podcasts go on for several hours and just devolve into petty arguments about which game is slightly worse felt counter intuitive. Is this going to be the trend going forward? Hours and hours of bickering just to create a list a minority is happy with and a chore to listen to? 2017 is perhaps one of the best years in games and this was the end result.
PUBG winning was absolutely obvious even though I never felt like it was actually discussed why it was. They've knocked games in the past and even this year for being the worst game of the year and here's this ugly military shooter that's been done to a bunch of times before to a less successful degree but they played it a lot so it wins by default.
Is this what happens when I'm super ill? This is the first time I've been able to get to my computer in a week and a brand new series is made with Ben and Abby about dating games. FUCK.
@nonesun: Japan is doing it like they used to because Sony is #1. The last generation was much more transitional. Phones were getting big and the Xbox 360 made western development the new default unlike the PS2 era. The PS4 has now sold nearly the total amount the PS3 did in nearly half the time and it didn't even really do anything amazing to achieve it, it just undercut Microsoft early out of the gate and momentum has carried them the rest of the way.
For as much as gamers argue about exclusive games and a lack of them on the Xbox, I'd argue that Microsoft started out with a much stronger exclusive line up than Sony did and it's only been the last 2 years that things have really changed meanwhile Microsoft have been focusing too much on hardware without the software to back it up.
Why is there so much arguing about Dan giving a game 5/5? Is it hard to believe that a mainline Mario game isn't worthy of such praise? Everybody is just bringing up Sunshine over and over again. When I was a teenager I thought it was a great game but looking at it in hindsight certainly exposes more of the bs we've come to see in the Steal My Sunshine series.
Watching them play PUBG is getting a little thin for me BUT it's still both offices getting together for one game which is great.
I really love that it brings the offices together, but I'm ready for another multiplayer game. As fun as PUBG was to watch in the beginning, it gets old. The fog run this time was the most exciting thing to happen just because it was something different.
Edit: I guess the monkey's paw result of this wish is that I might get 30 Destiny 2 streams once everyone's got their hands on it
I watched every Monday and couldn't get enough but now it just sits on my second monitor and I'll sometimes glance over while doing something else. They've been playing for quite awhile now but their tactics just haven't changed so it's just not even that exciting or even dumb any more. They only just learned you can peak around corners but they'll never use that to their advantage. The biggest mistake you can make in PUBG is assuming that you're alone but they do it all the time. Maybe they should take a break from it and return when there's some significant changes. The fog is a big deal in some ways because it no longer means that distance is no longer an advantage to good players but the crew have zero capability in dealing with any sort of shoot out be it at long range or close. The fact that they all got rolled by one dude speaks volumes.
I'm curious if this'll make top 10. It shouldn't have been in the top 10 in 2014 but Brad fought super hard for it to be there but 2017 is a much better year than 2014 was and the crew have already stated that if Shadow of Mordor came out this year, they may have doubted it'd crack top 10 and everything I've heard about D2 makes it sound like a much better game than the first but it doesn't drastically shake things up.
@nigeth:I've expressed this exact same opinion in the past. Dan is a powerhouse of creativity. He brings lots of ideas to the table and actually puts those ideas into practise. Exquisite Corps however, is Vinny's idea and it was crafted when Austin was a part of the site. Why it took so long to come to fruition is likely in part to being the only video production member and I do love the little intro bits (yay editing). It's a great concept for a show but Dan's whole shtick is kind of ruining it. His character has its place in the likes of PAX wrestling but when the idea for the show is to work together towards a common goal, it really doesn't gel and all it's doing is frustrating the community that want them to succeed. Even if Abby fails as she has done, she's a novice at this game so any mistakes can be attributed to that while Dan claims to be an expert at it.
