Top 10 of 2022

by mrcropes

I tried to base my 2022 list solely on the 2022 games I completed. but as you can see by the completion dates below I wouldn't have made 10 total games. While I may not have as much to say as last year's list, it doesn't mean 2022 was any less interesting. I started a podcast with a friend called 'Adam and Sam! at the Disco' where we talk about Panic! at the Disco albums, songs, videos, and general things from our lives. It's a fun listen but I am clearly biased toward it.

This year my Switch went almost untouched, like last year, but I did acquire a Playstation 5 and hit the Playstation Plus catalog pretty hard.

Unlike last year, I am just going to keep this list limited to my Top 10 games and not a full list of what I played however briefly. I may make a separate list for that.

Top 10 Movies:

  1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
  2. Prey
  3. The Batman
  4. Nope
  5. Barbarian
  6. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
  7. The Gray Man
  8. Terrifier 2
  9. Avatar: Way of Water
  10. The Black Phone

Top 5 Albums:

  1. Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers - Kendrick Lamar
  2. Inside: The Outtakes - Bo Burnham
  3. RomCom - Jakey
  4. Viva Las Vengeance - Panic! at the Disco
  5. Midnights - Taylor Swift

Elden Ring

1. Elden Ring

Xbox Series X - Completed 4/2/2022 - 66% Achievement Completion The first Soulsborne game I have ever beaten. My wife hated the entire time I played this game because I went pretty hard on it and didn't really watch or play anything else during that period. I loved this game so much, everything felt like a triumph on both the developer's and the player's side. Never before had I felt so empowered after finishing a boss whether Elden Lord or in a random cave.

God of War Ragnarök

2. God of War Ragnarök

Playstation 5 - Completed 11/27/2022 - 91% Trophy Completion My history with the God of War series was rocky before the 2018 release, I wouldn't say I was a fan but played all of the console games except Ascension. Alas, 2018 won me over and Ragnarok surpassed every expectation I could have had for the game. I am still debating on finishing out the platinum.

Signalis

3. Signalis

Xbox Series X - Completed 12/28/2022 - 38% Achievement Completion Signalis is a game that shouldn't have worked for me on many levels but instead sent the elevator to the top floor without hesitation. This PS1-survival horror-like game was one of the fastest games I played this year. The art design and super-indie horror story just all meshed together perfectly.

4. Horizon Forbidden West

Playstation 5 - 8/17/2022 - 90% Trophy Completion There isn't much to say about Horizon that hasn't been said time and time again. I played most of the game on Playstation 4 before diving in to see how it ran on PS5, which it runs great. It was clearly overshadowed this year, but it also didn't really push itself further, either, as it felt nearly identical to its predecessor.

The Quarry

5. The Quarry

Xbox Series X - Completed 9/11/2022 - 36% Achievement Completion Any game that lets my wife and I play together in some capacity is always a win in my book, but that it was a Supermassive major release made it that much better. This was probably one of the most fun gaming experiences of the year, knowing the panic my wife had every time she had the controller while I ultimately was the first one to get somebody killed.

As Dusk Falls

6. As Dusk Falls

Xbox Series X - Completed 8/13/2022 - 57% Achievement Completion Same as The Quarry, played through this with my wife. I didn't expect to like this game, between the artwork or how the story could progress - the story does have faults - but it was a rollercoaster most of the way. I would like to see more of this type of game but not an oversaturation of them.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

7. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Xbox Series X I did not expect to have Call of Duty anything on my list but here we are. More than Warzone (1.0?), I spent several hours playing solo with a headset on and even scored a solo victory. I have also been part of a quad victory, since. I don't know what it is if it is the map or changes made to the game, but something about Warzone 2.0 works for me more than most Call of Duty releases in recent years.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Xbox Series X - Completed 7/11/2022 - 43% Achievement Completion Got to play this one with a friend and while we jammed through it the itch it scratched was so nostalgic it's hard to deny.

Stray

9. Stray

Playstation 5 - Completed 12/31/2022 - 38% Trophy Completion Stray was a letdown but not so much so to boot it. Hell, look at number 10 there. The ending just kind of landed with a thud and didn't give me much hope for anything. The platforming was also too limiting. However, that damn cat. That. Damn. Cat... So cute.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

10. Ghostwire: Tokyo

Playstation 5 - Completed 9/2/2022 - 37% Trophy Completion Ghostwire is mainly here because this game had a vibe to it, it may have been a mess for mechanics, and the story is not the greatest but the way it crafted its spooky world is top-tier. The player character's animations in-game (don't get me started on cutscenes) were cool to watch although more variety would have been nice.
