NEW COMPUTER IS WIN!

Well I've finally got a new computer, set it up, fixed issues and got it connected to the internets. The internet thing was actually harder than i expected, due to my 64 bit OS my shoddy Netgear pci card doesnt support 64 bit, so I had to find a card that did, find a store that sold that card and then finally find time to go outside and buy that card. So, without further ado, I shall paste mah specs!

OS: Vista Home Premium 64 (Its cool, I'm getting 7)
MOBO: Asus P6T Deluxe V2
CPU: i7 950 3ghz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 295
RAM: 6gb of awesomeness
HDD: 2 x 1tb
Screen: Acer 23"
Case: Antec 900II
Sound Card: SoundMAX HD audio
Mouse and Keyboard: Shit standard Microsoft

So I am very happy with it, there have been a few slight compatability issues though (for instance I can't play Dungeon Keeper 2) I'm currently in the process of moving over all my shit which may take a while but thanks to me finally getting file sharing working on my computer it might not take as long as I innitialy thought. I'm going to borrow Crysis from a friend to slaughter that game and show it who's boss. Now all thats left is to get a better ISP than Bigpond (shouldn't be hard) so I can get epic pings!

Then you have failed.  It's actually probably something to do with then 64 bit system though, if you enjoy playing old PC games you should consider installing a second OS on there somewhere, XP would fix most of your compatibility problems.

If you don't mind me asking how much did all that stuff cost?  I'm considering a similar build to replace this aging machine.  I might instead go for one of those new i5's to cut down on the costs a bit.

@Hamst3r:
YAY! Now we can be similar rig buddies!

@UnsolvedParadox:
Since I didn't build it myself but ordered it at my local computer store it was rather expensive. It came to around AUS$3600

@IncredibleBulk92:
Yeah, its just a 64 bit issue, plus DK2 was made for 98.

@Absurd:
Sorry man.

I did say 3600 not 360, you just failed at quoting.

If you bought the pieces yourself and put it together yourself it would be much cheaper though.

@SL33TBL1ND: Yeah that's what I meant...I was shocked at the $3600...that's what you paid? That seems like twice what it should have cost even converted to USD, unless PC components are a lot more expensive over there.

They are a good amount more expensive, but it could definitely be built for less than $3600 on your own. Probably not as much less as you think though.

Yeah, my graphics card by itself cost just over AUS$700, its the same with games over here in Australia. Yahtzee likes to think of it as the "we have the nicest beaches tax".

  You spent ~3000 USD on a computer. Wow.

I hope you realize that it is going to be obsolete in ~1 month.

There is no reasonable justification for buying top of the line- the price premium is not equivalent of the performance gain.

It also boggles the mind that you bought it pre-built. You literally spent ~1000 US (1150 AUS) dollars more than you would have had you built it yourself in the US.

Pretty expensive, but nice setup congrats. As far as being obsolete in a month, thats just stupid. Sure newer, better hardware will come out in a few months or whatever, but I can play most PC games on a rig I got 4 years ago. I could see this rig lasting even longer than that. Besides if you think about it how much better can graphics get?

Man this blog is geting way more replies than I thought it would.

@SirPsychoSexy:

Yeah, the only thing I may have trouble with might be Crysis 2, but even then it should be fine.

@Gunner:
Yeah, and maybe if I find the money I could be bothered to buy another and SLI them. Though I'll only do this once the 300's come out, then the price drop will make it easier.

@JJWeatherman:
Yeah, well I just used the same principal as when I bought my TV, might as well spend as much as I possibly can because I am going to have it for a while!

@torus:
Wasn't exactly prebuilt, this store builds custom rigs for people at better prices than many other places around here. Plus, prices for computer parts as I've already stated, along with everything else, are much more expensive in Australia anyway. Oh, and I will enjoy.

@Naikori:
No, and honestly, I don't need to.

Why bother right now?  In a month those 295s will in all likelihood be outclassed by a single DX11 card.  Just hold out for a month, maybe two for Nvidia.

Sorry for late replies everyone!

@oDawg:
Hah! Especially since they have spinny blue LED's in them.

@Gunner:
Its nice having supporters online, although it might be good to add I can't run Crysis on max everything, if I lower the resolution I can put everything else on max, but then it isn't max. But if I had to 295's, or OC'd my current one, that would be a different story.

@Jiggah:
 Or just buy the 2 295's once the 300's come out for the price drop, that might make more sense.

@zyn:
Probly not, but its good to be prepared.

Sorry mate, they didn't turn them off.  What's been floating around the internet regarding that is mostly rubbish spread by people who are lazy and unwilling to do their own research.

This is what worked for me in Windows 7 64bit.  I have a realtek onboard system.

i think you should definitely wait for DX11 cards, or go the ati route with their DX11 cards.
serioously, nvidia will probably come out with a DX11 card in a year or so, and it'll be about the same price.
