My Top 10 Fighting Games

While this list doesn't win any points for creativity. I wanted to present myself with a challenge. I'm going to pick the top 10 games that just blew my mind away. Either in story, game play, art, or multiplayer. I haven't played every single game, however I do believe I played enough to be content on making this list.

Rules:
- Console and PC games only.
- Although it may look odd, I will allow same franchise games to appear if deserved.

List items

  • I actually still remember the day I bought this game, and I was pretty small when this game was released. Samurai Shodown offered great music, creative fighters, and amazing level design. Also at the time the concept was just begging to breath life.

  • Marvel vs Capcom, nuff' said.

  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike was a masterpiece during it's day. The game offered plenty of old and new characters for everyone to master. The graphics were sharp and smooth to look at. The level design was well drawn and the gameplay was balanced. This game had it all! I'm still hoping they make a Street Fighter III HD Remix.

  • While there were many KOF games released KOF99 holds a special place in my heart. The game had a huge list of characters to create your team with and offered some great local multiplayer action. The game was well balanced and just awesome.

  • I think it should be stated now that I love Capcom and SNK. So as you can see having a Capcom vs SNK game would tighten my pants - and it did. While this game did look like it was made using MUGEN, it offered hours of fun and plenty of characters to play as. This game was every fighting fans dream.

  • Soul Calibur II's gameplay was so simple and easy to pick up that even a FPS fan can come pick it up and play the game while having some fun. However the game also offered a extremely deep fighting system to keep the pros from the joes. Each version of this game had a special character from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. e.g. The GameCube version had Link while the Playstation 2 version does not.

  • Tekken 4 was easily my favorite in the series. While most people would consider it the weakest. What made me pick this version of the game over Tekken three or five would be the art direction. I think this game had a modern neo-urban look to it that no other Tekken offered. I loved the character, level, music, and menu design of this game. That is why it gets my 8 spot.

  • Lets face it, who doesn't love hand drawn and generically awesome anime characters? I know I sure do. The game offers a boost of odd fighters from the bad ass main character with a huge sword too a genetically confused boy. The gameplay was insane seisue inducing color would explode from the epic battles within this game.

I honestly was blown away when I bought this off the XBLO store. This game earned my 9 spot.

  • Bloody Roar was and forever will be awesome. This game had the wackiest concept for a fighting game. The idea was that you would pick a generic fighter and watching them turn into animals at the users command and tear each other apart! I don't know about you - but that just screams awesome. While the game wasn't a great competitive fighter, it did offer some great fun for all to enjoy. Myself included.

The game had many different iterations after the release, but the original won my heart back in the Playstation 1 era. Thus earning the 10 spot.
