If you wanna have a game that did jumping poorly then the Bubsy 2D games are good examples. Too fast and too high of a jump and a camera that gives you no way of knowing where you would land (or almost where you were at all).
I recently bought Anno 1503 on GOG and even though I haven't gotten around to it yet it will probably atleast win my nostagia price for the year.If it was more "new games that feel retro" you were looking for I would put Galak-Z quite far up there.
