Any game that involves fantasy elements the go-to accent is British. Even in movies. Why the fuck does Thor sound English? Well he's weird and from another world so he has to sound "foreign" but not "too foreign". Such a stupid trope.
I've NEVER felt like I was the Doom guy or the Quake guy or even Gordon Freeman... silent protagonists are stupid to me, I prefer it when they have some personality beyond being a dude who carries a gun/sword/crowbar. Unless they're silent for a reason like BioShock.
People like to watch movies where the good guys win sometimes. It's true of most mediums. Death happens in comics, but very rarely does it stick. More the point heroes overcoming death is a big part of the mythology of comics. Wolverine will be dead soon in the Marvel 616, but HOW he comes back will be as a big an event as how he died. It's escapist fantasy, not high-class literature.
They're making a sequel to GOTG because they have enough data to suggest it will be worth their time and money. End of.
The world is pretty fucked right now... a few fun comic book movies don't matter that much. You can criticise their quality of course, but at the end of the day they're light entertainment. I've liked every Marvel movie so far (varying degrees, but none have been truly awful), I hope they keep making them.
@rachelepithet: They are very different films. Also, I think 1 has aged better than 2.
What makes you say that? The effects in 1 are admirable for sure, but I don't think they hold up. 2 still looks amazing. I can't think of a scene that has aged too bad... plus so many huge practical effects...
Oh I wasn't referring to the special effects, clearly 2's are superior. I meant more the humor is dated with cheesy one-liners and such.
Hmmm... I'd still disagree. I don't think dated so much as it's almost become a period piece now. I'd argue it's very well written and perfectly grounded in the 90s, the cheesiness was self-aware even at the time. I'd argue a movie like Demolition Man (which is still great) has aged worse in terms of writing.
