Echoing many other's statements about how Ryan was someone they felt like they knew. We may have just listened to him on a podcast and seen his work on the site, but Ryan was (and the rest of the crew is) a regular part of my week. I look forward to the podcast every Tuesday.

Again, condolences to all that are devastated by this loss.

Is there a way to search the games database for games that match 2 or more specified concepts? Say I want a list of all games that are tied to Tower Defense and Grinding.

This page lets me specify several things in that large right-hand column, but I can't specify concepts.

This is one title I wish would take the Mega Man 9/10 approach... release new games with the same look and feel as the first two.

The next best thing is out there because Doom still has an active mapping community. A good start is doomworld.com's Cacowards which round up some of the best community map packs from the year.

Hey duder, it's 2012, I hope you're still playing Doom. I'd love to hear what you think about the new Doom 3 stuff that's coming out. I played through Doom 2 on XBLA and recently went through Doom 1 when it was re-released and am currently watching Breaking Brad's Doom conclusion.

Couldn't care less about the Doom 3 re-release. I loved it when it came out but I've never had the desire to go back to it.

Do you feel that a new, DooM-style FPS would be successful in 2012? Something with the more abstract just-for-fun level design, secrets, key hunting, enemies that require different strategies, "mobility as defense" instead of tank-style resistance, with updated graphics, and a basic plot but little to no cutscenes or rail sequences.

Not quite the same thing but I think people enjoyed the Serious Sam remakes or re-releases a few years ago. I'd rather just play Doom though, there are always new community-created WADs to play through.

If anyone watched last night's Unprofessional Fridays (2/15/2013) and came here because of it, please play this game. It is completely awesome. Brad actually did a pretty poor job of showing off what makes the game so good, though. He should have played some beforehand to get past the intro and tutorials.

It's on 360 Games on Demand for $15, and it looks like a used copy is $10 at Gamestop/EB. I'm actually going to go buy another copy after thinking about the game last night, I gave a friend my old one forever ago.

It's not very different from the other Layton games, but they did a really great job bringing the game to the 3DS. They re-did all the characters and everyone is now a 3D model, and the animations and expressions on the characters are all really great. The puzzles are good and there's a daily puzzle DLC thing that gives you a new puzzle every day. They build up and the first time you connect, you get every daily puzzle released so far, so you don't miss out on the early ones.

If you've never played Layton, it's a puzzle game with story in-between. The game always tells you where to go next and who to talk to or what to do to progress the story, but you're usually free to wander and talk to people and find hidden puzzles to do.

edit: I should also mention that this is my most played 3DS game, about double the hours of my #2 game according to my 3DS play stats. I finished every puzzle and I will be loading up the daily puzzle DLC about once a week to get and do the new puzzles. I like the game a lot.
