@sixghost: It's Street Fighter dude, not World Cup Soccer/NBA/Golf. Please everyone stop making comparisions to mainstream sports. Videogames will never get there. A one-off thing? It'll be more than the zero-off thing SF had before. MLG had less than a season? It's more than SF has. Also, are the players in MLG getting paid more? I have a strong suspicion they are.
@StaticFalconar: I don't think fighting games and football commentaries are supposed to be held to the same standards. One is done as a profession and the other as a hobby. One you get paid for doing hours and hours of research, work, etc., one you do on your weekends with your research being the hours you played for enjoyment for free. Also, again football doesn't have to dumb down because it's ingrained into our culture. An exponentially more amount of people know what 'throwing a hail mary' is than 'where your curly moustache at?' (btw, where was killian going w/ that explanation of the phrase to sessler?). Why? cause the NFL would like you start throwing really long passes at pee wee flag football. It's not a question of intelligence, It's a question of accessibility, which more exposure would answer that. more accessibility --> more interest
@mnzy: Can't have more fans to feed into the community w/o more exposure. And the Evo stream is exposure, there's a reason the stream gets bigger every year and is not a stagnant audience.
@SamDrugbringer: Football is ingrained in the American culture also. The jargon there is at least tangentially touched by as low as a level as middle school. Bring that commentating to a foreign country and no one will understand what the hell is going on. I feel this Sessler hate is all growing pains in SF popularity. Was he good on the mic tonight? No. Is he the dude with a network behind him willing to show EVO to a mass audience of dunces which could lead to bigger things? Yes.
Man, so much Inthul love. His post-interview after the tourney was pretty much saying he's hoarding knowledge on Fei Long. Be interesting to see how long he'll last with the increasing exposure he gets
I really hope a group of really special guys would borrow a page from mainstream sports and highlight and analyze significant matches. I thought it was really interesting when NBC had tony dungy break down football replays on and how and why certain plays were successful. Or maybe something like how this guy breaks down chess matches (I don't even play chess but jrobichess has such interesting commentary on games it's enjoyable to watch): http://www.youtube.com/user/jrobichess I say 'really special' because it would guys who are well versed in the game, do their homework on matches and the players, and know how to present it to the audience (good on the mic, good with the 'madden drawing arrows' graphics) . I don't know who's big in the community that could do these things. It would give weight, significance, and a cataloged video to all the information that the OP would like to have (pointing out BnB combos, failure to space correctly, footsie fishing, option selects, etc.)
