E3 2011 Community Quest Postmortem

Some of you may have noticed an absence in my usual quest stats during the E3 community quest. This was normal.

While I was aware of the actual deadline (end of June 12th) and the reward for success (1000 XP), once completions actually started rolling in, I completely forgot to create a thread on the matter while watching the live E3 Bombcast feeds. The next morning, I updated my data, and began to prepare the graph for posting.

After seeing this sort of progress, even just one day in, I knew it wouldn't be worth our time.

The hardest parts of this quest? According to my observations, most people either couldn't figure out how to create a proper E3 2011 list (using the special button provided after clicking "Add to a list"), or otherwise couldn't be bothered to expend the effort.

Well, either that, or the list quest became much more rare after the ability to create said E3 2011 lists went away. I'm surprised this wasn't a limited edition quest.

Other users struggled to figure out what devices should be used to go underwater. That seems about right to me.

Failure aside, I'll quietly present one more set of statistics. There was a bit of an audience kerfuffle over two specific guests from a certain company on the first segment of the day zero Bombcast. I'll be honest -- I thought the negative response was outright moronic and an embarrassment to this very site. I also wondered if perhaps it was a bit overblown.

I counted all the responses specifically mentioning the two guests or their contributions to the day zero podcast. I tallied all the positive and negative comments and categorized them by console preference. Neutral responses were ignored, and users who made multiple comments were counted only once.

I expected more of a lean towards the positive, but I also imagine that people are more apt to post complaints than praise. The numbers make sense to me, and regardless, they lean more positive than negative. Perhaps the response was indeed a bit over-dramatic.

It also looks like console fanboyism is alive and well, even on Giant Bomb. Like that's the least bit surprising.
