An exercise in excellence, it's impossible to discount this game. In a year where Nintendo games were resurrected, re-imagined and revitalized, Mario Galaxy 2 remains true to the franchise's roots, and is exquisitely fun in the process.

I typically don't care for Rockstar games. Grand Theft Auto games leave me at a loss, and the atmosphere associated with crime dramas leave me uninterested. That said, Red Dead blew me away completely, with an ending that left me desperate for more.

If there was any game that caught me by surprise this year, it was Mass Effect 2. I've long considered myself a fan of Japanese RPG's exclusively, a choice that Mass Effect forced me to reconsider. From it's stellar cast to it's expansive story, Mass Effect 2 proves it's superiority in droves.

Maybe I hate myself, but the raw challenge of Super Meat Boy kept me coming back for more. I sat for 5 hours to beat 3 levels. And I loved every minute of it.
