@zombiepie: I'm a HUGE fan of Ys. Oath in Felghana and Origin were my faves. That being said, It's more for the action than the story. The stories are fairly typical JRPG trope-fests. Just about every single Ys game has a damsel in distress that falls for the protagonist after he saves her in some capacity or another. If you're looking for story, I'd lean more toward Grandia II. If you're after some good action then Ys is your game.

Also, since the first moment I saw you making a blog for this game I've been waiting for the moment you get to the final boss. I'm going to savor it.

@veggiesbro: @mrhaydel: It took me most of yesterday but I was able to get my computer up and running again, so I'm good to go. The discord link expired so I'll need a new one.

@veggiesbro: Well I'm currently on vacation from work so I'm pretty wide open for hunting from now until the weekend. My computer just decided to die on me last night though, so no discord server for me for now, I'm afraid.

I love me some monster hunter goodness. I was all the way down the rabbit hole for both 3U and 4U and plan on doing so again with this. (Let me know if you need help with your G2 stuff!) I'm also in Mountain Time.

@zombiepie: Temple of the Ancients is probably the hardest part of the entire game. It was for me, anyways. The bosses are really rough and I usually end up putting my party in the back row for them. In case you're not aware, putting your dudes in the back row causes them to deal/take about half damage. The exception being ranged weapons like Barret's gun and magic. Then you just pelt the bosses with magic and keeping your health up becomes much more manageable.

I love Final Fantasy Tactics as a game, but I always hated the character designs. The in game sprites are fine, but MAN...

Fume Knight gave me SO much trouble. Even after I finally beat him I still felt defeated because of how long it took me. According to this article he had a 93% win rate which was the highest of any boss (at the time.)

I don't mean to hate on what other people like, but I'm super not into this. I don't feel like the J-pop/Metal thing works at all.

There's also a mobile version of Dragon Quest 3 if that's more to your liking.

There's a whole bunch of RPGs out there that let you create your party. Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (but you have to set it up as a "multiplayer" game. You don't actually have to play with anyone.) Temple of Elemental Evil, TONS of first-person dungeon crawlers like Etrian Odyssey, Wizardry, Demon Gaze, Class of Heroes, etc. Final Fantasy 1 lets you create your party and FF 3 and 5 have class changing systems that basically are like creating a party minus the actual characters and their personalities.

I'm sure there's plenty of others I'm not thinking of at the moment, but you've definitely got options!
