Sorry guys, but that conversation about Activision-Blizzard and asking employees to return to the office has to be one of the most tone deaf things I've ever heard. The pandemic forced companies to learn how to do things remotely. And absolutely we learned a lot about how just doing things the way we've always done things isn't necessarily the best way. And from that came a lot of innovation and change in the way we do things.
However to make the leap that that now means nobody has to return to the office is naive. And while I do feel for anybody who finds their life changed because they have to return to in person work, if they moved or sold their car without an agreement from their employer that they wouldn't be expected to return...well that's on them not AB.
Also to make assumptions about how a video game developer can or cannot function remotely is just arrogant. There are plenty of functions and activities that indeed are better accomplished in person, but I can't say how that relates to AB...and neither can you...because we don't work there or understand how their business functions. To just blame the decision on "the suits" or say a completely different company (Bungie) is completely remote so why can't AB is just childish and shows a completely uninformed understanding of how business works.
Oh God...that moment where Vinny says, "Take a picture of me" at the end had me literally clapping and laughing...that was one of the funniest thing I've seen in a long while...lol
I have always enjoyed these podcasts...one of my favorite pieces of content they put out each year in fact. But this year made me literally angry, and I had to take a break several times. Never before has a discussion made me hate a game I've never played so much as the Dream Daddy debacle. After listening to all 5 days (minus some skipped parts for games I didn't want spoiled) I still have no idea what the hell it is or why it is good. All I know is that it is "soooo good" and was a happy non-judgmental story...that's it. I got so frustrated when Dan (who I know can get a little opinionated at times) would explain how Yakuza or Uncharted did so many things right only to be shot down with, "but the writing is soooo good" and "it's not just another dating simulator" with no explanation as to why it wasn't other than it gave them feels...and gets good once you get the "Dad Book" whatever the hell that is...
Don't get me wrong, this is the GB list and everyone on GB should contribute and share their opinions. But those who shared well thought out opinions with facts seemed to be overshadowed by what, at times, seemed more like whining than discussing. Compare this year to when Austin got Invisible Inc on the list. I never played that game either and I likely never will, but hearing Austin explain why it affected him made me happy it got on the list. Compare that to this year where I've now developed an involuntary tick every time I hear the words Dream and Daddy said together.
Also for the record...we know you think Cuphead should be higher...please stop and get out of my nightmares.
