@tunaburn: Cool, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was wondering what had happened to all those feathers, pelts and half completed challenges that had disappeared when i died. Now I know.
@Alphonzo: Same thing happaned to me on a stranger mission, in mexico when you save a woman from a brutal beating. It was weird. Of course i couldn't allow the evil doppleganger to live, so afterward i shot her. Which freaked out everyone! I just hope i killed the right one...
@Damian: You lose progress when you die, you lose everything you have collected since the last save. It's just tiresome, collecting 20 bird feathers or red sage over and over again because of cougar attacks or having spent time collecting fox furs (which is far more tenious) only to lose it all in a duel gone bad/suprise attack. Alos the lacking of checkpoint on gang hideouts is also not so good.
Other than that the save/checkpointing is pretty good.
I think its fun once it all comes together. I lack of control is a let down sometimes. Two examples:
1 - in the paradigm Combat Clinic, with med/med/sen. If you take a hit and one med goes down. instead of reviving the other med to heal the group up faster. the med will heal party members till everyones in the green then revive.
2 - AI casting buffs is annoying, sometimes want them to cast enfire damn it! want are you waiting for.
I picked up street fighter IV, but damn that game is not friendly to new players. I kicked off with arcade and started it on easy and i have yet to get pass the first fight. Now that might also be because i keep getting interupted with challenges which are either - against people like me, worst then me or out of my league .
Training mode is boring and the directions of the moves are nonsensical to me (how the fuck do you make a Z? forward down, back forward, forward bwah!).
Anyway i don't if i'll stick with it. part of wants the challenge. But i might just go back to BF: bad company 2 or killing giant turtles in FF13.
After 80 hrs i've put into the game, i would say brad's review is fair. I flucuated between bordom and fun-dom whening playing this game.
I'm a little cheesed off at it right now. There are so many pacing and design choices which are a pain in the arse. Some people get over these and others, well it hits them like a brick wall. For me they just leave a bad after taste.
Take for instance what pissing me off atm. I was fighting the mission 55 neochu (i really hate this boss) i have maxed out all my main roles. With light/fang/hope.
I treid and retreid this mission for at least 2 hrs! getting so close to beating it each time. But before the end i always got overwhelmed by pollen and those little respawning mother fuckers. My strategy seemed sound, building chain gauges with mystic tower, buffing and healling to counter the scream and pollen. but to no avail.
Then i gave up, switched in vanille, and spammed death, it was over in less then 4 mins. "FUCK THIS GAME! With it's shit leveling system, shitty weapon upgrade system and stupid battle system." this my review atm....
