Thanks for ASG dudes, it's been my favorite thing on the site for its runtime. Absolutely loved hearing you experience Dragon Ball for the first time.

Great review(s)! I've only played the remake, but I definitely intend to go back and play these at some point.

Thanks! They're awesome games.

OP may already know but just FYI to anyone else, the HD collection is unfortunately quite buggy. Nothing game breaking and ultimately the collection is still better than going back to the PS2 versions and SD graphics, but the somewhat lackluster porting did a disservice to games that were high enough profile to warrant a better studio handling the job - especially given the presence of HD collections for the PS3 that were far better done.

I'm barely familiar with the old games, so I haven't noticed any glaring differences besides the darker shadows on the originals. Not like I haven't seen a glitch here and there, but I can't attribute them to either the original or the HD ports without knowing the originals better. I hope there's another port at some point, though. I could live fine with these first 3, despite some occasional hiccups, but Deadlocked is maybe a step too far for me. None of these games are out on PS4, so maybe they're aware there's some stuff they'd have to patch up. I hope that's the case.

This game looked pretty cool when I visited my friend's house and played it on his sega mega. Like, look at how big the sprites are. This is much more detailed than Mario. Suddenly turning into a wolfman was super cool.

But yeah now it more brings to mind those fancy-ass super short bad launch games every console gets.

Lmao all that shade thrown at Mr. Do

CyberConnect 2 make some amazing cutscenes. I dunno about their gameplay but I trust them to make a real good version of the DBZ story in game form. Like I'd sooner play those Ninja Storm games than watch more of the anime.

The Life is Strange choice is some real bullcrap. Like yeah it's a real dilemma, but it's incredibly contrived how we got here. Somehow using your time travel magic conjures snow, two moons, whales stranding and a giant typhoon? Just the must bullshit literal interpretation of "butterfly effect"? And the way to solve it isn't to make any different choices with different effects, it's to do the emotional thing and shoot your best friend slash possible crush? What kinda superpower comes with the caveat that if you use it to save people, storms happen? Not even any other people. You save the life of the suicidal Christian chick just fine. It's just her. Like what the hell man.

Choices in games fall flat for me most of the time 'cause they're so obviously false. Is it heart-wrenching to decide to kill someone in Mass Effect 1? Not really, 'cause the same story plays out anyway. Is it tense to choose who lives and dies in the Walking Dead when the other person has to die a couple scenes later anyway? The nature of resources means they can't make a game where you have to entirely separate routes. That makes it hard to care on anything other than a principal/customization level - "I wanna be nice, I like this person better so she gets to live longer".

For me, my favorite choices in games are visual novel routes, 'cause since that's just text you actually get entirely different stories with those same characters. I also like the way you can kill or not in Undertale. There's obviously only one moral way to play it, which gives you way more content and story, but having the option to always murder someone the Dan Ryckert way means my pacifist route feels inherently more meaningful.

Nier Automata's true ending choice was also impactful, 'cause I still feel bad

OG Dragonball is quite pervy. It’s just another reason I think they’d much prefer DB Super after the end of this run.

The biggest reason being that their two favorite characters, Vegeta and Mr. Satan are actually in it.

The only time OG Dragon Ball is more pervy is in the first 10 or so episodes. Nothing else after even comes close. Them skipping the best part of the story would be a crying shame. Going straight to Super is a huge mistake. Especially since Super isn't even that good.

My dude, there's an episode of DB where Roshi shrinks himself so he can watch Bulma do bathrooms. It is episode 48. Take off the rose-colored goggles.

Remember that time there's an invisible man Yamcha can't beat, so Goku flies off to get Bulma and Roshi, aims Roshi's nose towards the ring, pulls down Bulma's top and then Roshi's nosebleed makes the invisible man visible? That's a while after that even.

I didn't know Star Gladiator existed until they put a June costume for Chun-Li in Street Fighter V.

We had a map on the wii, man. Even the DS game had a map.

After what, five of these games, I think it's a pretty big bummer that they haven't changed them up more. Like compare the progression here to the mainline series. Galaxy 1 and 2, 3d land and world, and then odyssey? Things have changed fairly significantly, with a lot of unique style to it. And then there's these games doing the same thing since 2006.
