The PAL version is still the superior-looking SNES.

(also the timers are a really smart addition to the series and Dan doesn't like them because he wants to just do overwatch until the heat death of the universe)

Gonna stop you right there. Even if you're not doing overwatch spam, the timers fucking suck in XCOM 2. I'd have no problem if they only existed for missions where there's a reason for a time limit, but that game slaps them on any old thing as a cheap shortcut to increasing the difficulty.

If you have to patch in an option to double the amount of turns you get because the audience reaction was so negative, you made a bad design decision, end of story.

That whole conversation about nostalgia culture (Ready Player One, etc) is really fucking interesting.

I tend to think we've just rounded the corner on postmodernism. Everything is a reference, everything is a culmination of whatever came before it, nothing exists as an island without context. We don't really need a rigid "this was the 20's, this was the 60's, this was the 80's, what is our now?" any more because it doesn't actually matter. There are no absolute truths because it turns out there never were, we just convinced ourselves otherwise.

We're a remix of a remix. It's not a bad thing, it just represents a lack of any real super structured identity beyond whatever appeals or makes some sort of rational sense to us.

PAL SNES/Super Famicon > NTSC SNES any day.

It's not even close.

Irish accents remain one of the last great hurdles in video game voice acting.

As an Australian, I can confidently say they'll get yours sorted before they ever get close to ours.

Rami talking about respecting those long-shot games makes me think about LA Noire.

+1 for whichever chucklefuck got Bakalar to read out loud the GNU MLP copypasta. Now let us never speak of it again.

On the nu-MST3K talk, I'm usually super sceptical when someone says "it totally gets better!" but holy shit does it ever in this case. Cry Wilderness is just a great episode no matter the era.

The complete silence during the beach scene is all the commentary you need.
