People need to stop support this garbage. This game being such a huge success is why come the end of this new generation games like COD and Assassin's Creed are going to be filled with Gacha garbage.
Honestly 100% agreed.
I kind of don't care how 'good' the packaging is here, it's all built around the gacha mechanics. That's it. The sole purpose is to push you towards those purchases. That's not cynicism, it's a direct observation.
And it isn't just the end of this era that we're starting to see the results. Other devs have been implementing this stuff for years now. They're often given a pass because it's "just cosmetics". Even in the case of something like Destiny where cosmetics are literally half the reward of the game and it's all locked behind shit purposely built to be extra tedious to push those MTX.
The more popular games like this become in spite of these mechanics, the more you'll see those mechanics continue to infect other titles.
@w00tazn: @zodzilla: Good spot but small note: When stuff like that happens please contact GB staff directly instead of publicly drawing attention to it.
This video reminded me of the issues I always had with Slender Man. It starts out great. Decent atmosphere, somewhat intriguing story, solid spookiness with plenty of great little genuinely scary moments both scripted and emergent. Then it immediately devolves into this item hunt that's more frustrating and tedious than engaging or unsettling.
At the start there are all these awesome little moments where you just barely see him in the distance or lurking in the shadows or out of the corner of your eye. Or you get those little static-y hints and ominous music saying he's nearby. But then while you're chasing down papers it becomes so formulaic. He just pops up behind you. And after the first time he gets you the thrill is kind of gone because it's telegraphed so much.
Also, as others have pointed out, yeah this game does nothing at all to fill you in on what you're supposed to be doing and how, even while giving it your full attention. God help you if you're trying to hold a side conversation while playing. It barely...barely points you in the right direction at the start while exploring that house. The upstairs bedroom Abby spent approximately 4 seconds in shows you the direction you should be headed, at least. But even with that knowledge, it's not super clear what to do from there other than "I dunno, just walk around and look at shit."
