Kinda funny when they asked Dan if he ever played LA Noire as a adventure game despite the fact that he was in the game

Great article @thatpinguino. I had a similar experience showing a co-worker about current video games and my love for them as a medium. He's a single parent in his 50's with a 10 year old daughter. His only experience with video games was in his teens in the 70's, and watching his former step-son playing N64 games and Halo on the original Xbox which he never really took interest and thought this kid was wasting his time, and his current daughter who play's Minecraft on her phone and watches youtube channels.

About a month ago when i saw him at work, he looked tired and miserable. I asked whats wrong and he told me he got a bunch of late shift and not seeing his daughter much as he wanted, his car broke down, he's barely making enough money to support himself and his daughter, and his daughter birthday is coming up. Knowing him for about 2 years i decided to lend him my PS3. That way we could have other things to talk about such as movie, TV show, games and our lives in general aside from hearing him complain throughout the entire week.

He seemed ecstatic. He seen a couple of videogame commercials on TV and during sports and always wondering what the fuss is about with Call of Duty, Halo, Minecraft, etc. Plus it would give his daughter something to play with without her going outside of the apartment at nighttime without him by her side.

He told me his daughter is okay to watch and play any game with violence and language ( She likes zombie shows like Walking Dead, Z Nations and saw Suicide Squad and Deadpool ) But doesn't want her to watch any nudity or graphic sex scenes. (Such as The Witcher, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, etc)

So far i lend him a bunch of games that either has a cinematic linear experience, coop, challenging but doable puzzles, positive female role models and whatever's on my PSN folder.

  • Uncharted 1-3 ( Likes the first story so far and the character especially Sully)
  • Killzone 2+3 ( Showed him a couple of chapters in the campaign and he's amazed of the graphics and detail to the game )
  • Resistance 2+3
  • Ghostbuster the videogame
  • Tomb Raider
  • Borderlands 2
  • Rachet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
  • Infamous 1+2
  • Little Big Planet 3 (They were confused on how to play it and wonder what the point. Loved sackboy though)
  • Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 1-3 ( Warned him about "No Russian")
  • Portal 2 ( His daughter got excited when she saw title screen because her friend bragged about it at school and she loves it. Cant wait for her to try out Quantum Conundrum)
  • Batman Arkham Series 1+2 (He's a big Superman Fan but ill see if i could break him...)
  • Injusticed (Him and his daughter like superhero movie / TV show. Hopefully they could button mash their way through the story on Easy mode)
  • The Last of Us ( I just want him to play at least 5-10 minutes and see if it would make him cry)
  • Journey
  • Papa Y Yo
  • Rain
  • Grid Autosport

When it come to shooting games, He ask me how to aim and not die and the only advice i could give him is to practice moving around a object while aiming or looking at it (such as circling around a barrel/ pillar while looking at it) or move around and look at a window. Sometime i come over to his apartment and show him and his daughter simple mechanics such as shooting, climbing, using gravity with portals to gain speed, etc.

By the way @thatpinguino, have you ever considered your Nonna to try out Assassin's creed (Especially 2 + Brotherhood) in Italian? Maybe she would like to play as a charming rouge like Ezio (whom i'd like to compare him to Zorro with more stabbing) and explore the Renaissance of Italy and Rome? although she might have problems with fighting and climbing stuff.
