@evilcalvin: Except he didn't give it 4/10, he gave it 2/5.

Which equates to a 4/10 on a 10 point scale. Since Metacritic and GameRankings use a 100 point scale you need to convert that to the 10/100 point scale to compare. 2/5= 4/10 which equates to 40%. Basic math grasshopper!

@evilcalvin said:

Well normally a 4/10 or 5/10 WOULD be an average score but videogame ratings are similar to Olympic scoring where a score is terrible if it isn't 9.0 or higher. A 5/10 SHOULD be average but as we all know, when we see a 6/10 or 7/10 we deem that game "bad" and the review content shows that. Any game that is considered "good" is always 8/10 or higher. A 4/10 IS considered "crap". You rarely see games rated below 7 unless they are broken or just "crap" just face it!

O_O

This is... I don't... WHAT IS HAPPENING???????

Exactly. It's as if it is still 1998.

Man, I had so much more trouble with that cargo container mission and the film canister... weird. I guess sometimes the rocket launcher approach really is most efficient!

Glad things are progressing smoothly again :) Lots of exposition!

The distrust and torture of Quiet just gets more shitty the more I revisit those elements. I guess its just Miller being an angry violent loose cannon, but I'm not sure why Venom and Ocelot just go along implicit. Because Ocelot likes torture so much, I guess? Venom doesn't have any objections even though she's been 100% loyal, saving his life and covering him on the majority of the missions through the game, fighting Sahelanthropus, Skull Face, etc..? Alright. The plot demands it.

Also, couldn't they maybe work on developing some more equipment for Quiet? Or at least get her some stockings that aren't ripped? It sure seems like they'd have been ripped to shreds running at high speed up those Afghan mountains n such. A camo kevlar bikini at the very least? What about the child soldiers? They're all just wearing exactly what they came in with? Maybe some Diamond Dogs fatigues? They made a horse mask and a wolf knife.

I suppose it's better experienced suspending disbelief. It's kind of an Anime.

I really love MGSV, but the story and structure feel so unrefined. What could have been...

Yeah, seeing this again I can't help but feel that this stuff is just bad. Also, no amount of listening to the tapes changes any of this.

Drew groaning when the kid was up to something is exactly how I felt during that scene.

I mean, Brad is my boy, but... didn't he literally describe the combat in Mass Effect 2 & 3 when he was talking about 3rd person cover shooters with moba/mmo abilities? Don't get me wrong, the time effects look nice in this. Reminds me of tossing out some fancier forms of biotic powers.

Haha, well Mass Effect was a few years ago so that memory must be fading. But man, now you got me wanting to make people fly off into the void using biotic powers. So satisfying to lift and throw enemies into space.

And don't forget, Brad played Mass Effect as a soldier.

@rvone: The meta stuff is maybe 3% of the game. There are almost no real "puzzles", you simply bang on the keyboard until it says "enter." The quick look makes it seem much more mysterious and confusing than it actually is.

That it is only 3% is good to know, for sure, thanks.

I like the whole aesthetic of the game, including the meta stuff, but from a gameplay perspective the whole fact that i have to sit here and arbitrarily bang on the keyboard and navigate faux menus instead of just clicking 'next level' is unfortunate.

Not shocked to see people going nuts over the star rating, but at the same time have people forgotten what the stars mean?

1- Would not recommend to anyone ever

2- Would only recommend to the most serious of fans

3- Would recommend to fans of the genre

4- Would recommend to most people who enjoy games

5- Would recommend to everyone

The concept is, really, to do away with arbitrary numbers and focus on just a direct recommendation system. Even though this review states some very high praise - and some low-lows - it would still make sense for it to be more of a fan thing.

Exactly, but most people just read it as 6/10, unfortunately.

Feeling the same here, ill put it down to them being busy with the studio for now. Also I don't really like Mary as a personality on the site. She is loud, unfunny and a little annoying.

Yeah, Mary is amazing! I always love it when she joins for one of these!
