Games I've Finished: 2012 Quetzalcoatl's Terrible Death Maw Edition

List items

  • Sure, you can say it's an mmo, but I finished the sith warrior storyline and will probably never touch it again so it counts in my book. It took me a little less than 6 days played to hit the level cap, so at that point it just becomes a grind for gear. If the story was doled out in a tighter 20-30 hour game, it'd be pretty rad, but alas.

  • It's fun, but it gets kind of exhausting to play more than a stage or two. Also, I have no idea what I did, but I can totally play as Gordon Freeman now. I swear that wasn't available from the beginning.

  • Pretty disappointing step backward from Brotherhood. Why'd they go back to the dude gets stabbed then talks for like 10 minutes thing and then you have to run? The multiplayer is still pretty fun though.

  • Stopped sucking long enough to get the normal ending on this one. 3 bosses in a row without healing/saving is for jerks. I missed a lot of crap too apparently, like not leaving your sidekick to drown for eternity.

  • I wish I had my own homicidal rabbit sidekick.

  • Mmm, ketchup icing.

  • I do so love strategy rpgs, but I can't help but lament that they only tend to be available on portable systems, especially when it takes 60 hours to play through one. Mainly because the majority of said portable play time is spent on my couch, right next to a large screen with multiple consoles and a home theater hooked up to it. On its own, though, Tactics Ogre is a pretty great game, though not as refined as Final Fantasy Tactics which would come next from Matsuno. I don't care for how the leveling works, but battles are still fun.

  • Best grappling hook ever. There's no shortage of chaos to cause, if you so choose, but I think I'm done with 29.91%.

  • To say I disliked this game early on is a bit of an understatement, but I did eventually get into the swing of things. I think it was mainly that since the battles weren't forced, I didn't bother to do them and was pretty weak when I went up against that shark boss thing in the beginning. Story was okay, but it seems like you have to do the supplemental crap after you beat the game to flesh it out, so basically I don't give a shit. The gear stuff with the trends seemed all kinds of ridiculous, but in the end it seemed best to just buy crap until you unlocked the quest items at a store, then buy that and fight in an area while wearing it to make it better. The touch controls were functional, but they kind of broke down if you equipped attacks with similar motions. I'd rather have button precision, personally.

  • Ketchup coffee is the worst coffee.

  • It just makes me sad that I can't jack my brain into rogue AI and download it into my head. It's a goddamn crime against transhumanity! It's a pretty game, though it does get hectic at the end.

  • Seemed like a lot more back and forth in the car than usual, though the addition of West Dakota being run by a soda addicted midget is pretty amusing.

  • I thought it was an aggressively okay shooter. There were multiple endings available, but the one where you kill both the dudes is the only one as far as I'm concerned.

  • Main campaign, hit level 16 as a monk that tore some pretty serious ass. Never had any luck getting anything but the audio to play on the movies though. Kinda wish you got more dudes to boss around instead of just one henchman though.

  • It's like DBZ and Gurren Lagann had a six-armed murderbaby. I've got about 6 more episodes with the mortal gauge equipped, which certainly makes you have to play a bit more conservatively, at least as opposed to normal which was push b to win.

  • Oh my god, I just killed the internet. That COPS song was also pretty catchy.

  • Did they watch Matrix Revolutions and say, hey those guys really nailed it? Because, man, that ending was total horseshit.

  • The joy of boiling Hugh Bliss alive can not be understated.

  • Possibly too much rule of 3's, but pretty fun over all. I was deeply saddened when I had to lose my Chaoseater that constantly vomited blood for the sake of the story.

  • Seems a little more substantial than the season 1 stuff, at least so far. I also like the idea of being the eternal cause of Jimmy Two-Teeth's torment.

  • Abe got shot down something fierce.

  • You know, those might be the most unsettling nipple rings I've seen in a while.

  • I'm still trying to figure out how JFK's spit made Bosco blackish-purple.

  • And season 2 finished. Condemning the Soda Poppers to a fiery hell is about as good of a conclusion as I could have hoped for.

  • Kinda weird that the best jrpg I've played this entire generation came out 4 years ago and is only on the 360 in America.

  • I really liked it, but man, is it a fucking downer.

  • Pretty different from the original, but still fun to play. The non-destructible lights in the co-op stuff is bullshit though.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the only game I'd distinguish with the "this really would be better with touch controls" label.

  • Finished normal and nightmare as a wizard. Any problems fighting Diablo melted away with the use of venom hydra. I started on Hell, but I don't think I have the patience to go further since the elites just wreck my ass 90% of the time. I'm up through act I as a barbarian, which is normally how I play this sort of game, and while I do like it, I'm glad I gave the wizard a go. Still have to try out the witch doctor though.

  • Things are still pretty grim for Max, even if he doesn't have any comic book panel accompaniment. Once I got used to how you have to use bullet time this time around I stopped dying so much. The game was good, but I don't know if I can say I enjoyed it, because damn, if I didn't feel edgy as hell after playing it.

  • I...played a lot of Game Dev Story. Something about watching meters fill up is oddly satisfying.

  • It's an evolution of No More Heroes with a little more nuance to the combat. It's also ridiculous in a way I can totally get behind with a great soundtrack.

  • My thoughts upon finishing this can largely be summed up by saying, "what the fucking fuck?" I've still got like 20 fragments left to get, so I think I'll give it a go just to see what else could possibly go wrong. The combat is still pretty cool, though you can get by with com/rav/rav 90% of the time. You can also control monsters because, fuck, I don't know, we didn't feel like coming up with more characters. I got trolled masterfully for that platinum.

  • I rather liked Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World, so I was generally excited to see what Zeboyd could do with the DoA Penny Arcade games. I wasn't disappointed with the combo of 8 and 16 bit art, goofy class system, and amusing writing. The ending was bleak as shit and totally makes me want to see the conclusion episode 4 looks to bring.

  • They added a lot of stuff for season three, huh? Playing with a controller so I can be super couch lazy was also a plus.

  • Other than the enemies being bullet sponges, I thought the game was pretty rad, but I always do have a thing for cyberpunk settings.

  • It's like playing a Tarantino adventure game, what with it being all out of order and stuff.

  • I really liked the hard boiled noir opening, complete with Sam magically getting some stubble and abusing suspects.

  • Clone Sam army in shiny gold short shorts? Terrifying.

  • And finished. They really shook up the formula for third season and I think they succeeded in making it more enjoyable than the previous ones.

  • Story and arcade mode with all characters. The story was interesting, even if the delivery method was a wall of text. I hope it means they don't do the silent protagonist thing any more since the banter with Yu and the others was pretty great. It is also my distinct hope that Persona 5 is structured like Mass Effect 2 with you rounding up your shadow extermination squad and tracking down the culprit from this game.

  • So, other than some minor beefs with the port job to pc (like hanging on merchants or the menu screen), this game was pretty great. I played apocalyptic, so now if I wanted, I could just go back and do all the collectible junk on easy. I was real bummed when that stuff didn't show up on the map this time around. I liked the loot, but it was kind of a bummer that possessed weapons outclassed all the rare/legendary gear.

  • The puzzles weren't too far outside the realm of logic, but man, was the pixel hunting a bitch sometimes. Currently resisting the desire to send an email to sushidouglas@hotmail.com

  • I liked the story and the twist at the end, but I didn't much care for the "do checkpoint races to unlock the next story bit". Of course, I couldn't help but giggle when one of the story bits was, in fact, a checkpoint race. It was probably just the AI rubber banding and their penchant for taking you out 5 meters away from the finish line.

  • I disliked 10,000,000, then I liked it, until I disliked it and finally liked it again by the end. I still don't like the way the matching worked, if only because my finger or thumb has a tendency to take up like, all of an ipod touch screen.

  • The story was well done, though the mouse controls were on the wonky side, and I couldn't use a gamepad since the config tool would only read the triggers as z-axis. Seems pretty easy to pick up for 10 bucks lately, and is totally worth it.

  • Finished Borderlands 2, still playing borderlands 2. It certainly is a bit tougher, what with the guys bouncing around more while they run at you and get shot. They also have a tendency to run out of range when trying to score a second wind. Man, did they jack up the damage and health numbers too. I'm a level 39 gunzerker and I have like 12k hp and even my pistols have 1000+ damage on them.

  • I finally go and beat the god king then they go and make him level 100 the next time around. It certainly has all the hooks to make me addicted to it, namely with all the gear mastering possibilities, plus I'm really surprised about how good the game looks even on a stupid ipod. It's a great time killer while I wait for incubations or the autoclave to finish.

  • I generally don't take much interest in platform type games, but after having watched the quick look, Hell Yeah! looked dumb enough to be up my alley. I was not disappointed. The cute level song haunts my dreams.

  • This game is awesome, but tense as shit. Seriously, even if you're a colonel with the best gear available to your class, if you get flanked, you are dead. I really liked the base building part too.

  • For a game that was cancelled twice, it turned out pretty awesome.

  • Better than Revelations, for sure, but those foot chases were pretty much horse shit. The naval stuff made me really want a pirate game with Sleeping Dogs style melee combat.

  • Even if the world wasn't as interesting compared to Skyrim, I think the combat and character building made up for it. I went the archmage route and just meteor'd the shit out of everything. Played the Dead Kel and Teeth of Naros dlc too, which were about the same depth of a faction quest line. Pretty good overall

  • Episode 1 of it anyway. More interesting than I thought it would be, though it ran a little choppy. *Update* Episode 2 in the books. Shit breaks real bad about halfway through. They do a pretty amazing job of creating tension. Episode 3: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck: The Video Game. Episode 4: A lot of setup for the finale, though I would play a Molly-based game. Episode 5: Kinda wonder how it goes if you go solo now. Not sure why everyone is getting so worked up though, I mean, it's a zombie game for Christ sake. It's not called the Walking Happy Ending.

  • So, it was 9.99 on Newegg and I wanted to see if it was as bad as it looked. Brother, I was not disappointed on that front. Grinding power ups for options seems the way to go, since you can at least pick those back up after some dumb shit spawns right on top of you.

  • I'd call it a high speed murder ballet with amazing music. I'd say it's easily in my top 3 for games of this year.

  • I never played a Hitman game before, though I always intended to, and hell, I even own 3 of them due to Steam sales, but I never indulged until Absolution. My only real problem with the game was lack of being able to save wherever I wanted, since it seems a little annoying having to do the same routine over and over until I got back to the part where I fucked up, only to fuck up again. I also wish there were more actual targets, since figuring out the unique ways you could murder people were the best part of the game.

  • White phosphorous is a bad scene, man.

  • Is it weird to like this better than Diablo 3? Because I do. Then again, my memories of Diablo 3 might be tainted by getting one-shotted by everything and anything, repeatedly so by elite packs. Plus, my outlander was pretty much the darkness, flooding the battlefield with purple shadowlings and hosing bullets, and that's pretty awesome.

  • About the only thing I didn't like about Dust was the map since it made it annoying to track down every treasure. Sure, I mean, I did it anyway, but it could have been easier with a proper Symphony of the Night/Metroid style map.

  • So, I'm pretty sure this is the best stealth game ever.

  • I think Dishonored is all right. Is it just me or were there a lot of stealth games this year? I liked the powers, especially blink and bend time since they seemed to make up for any poor choice of cover I happened to make.
