Games Defeated 2014

List of games defeated in 2014

Game of the Year: GTA V (PS4)

List items

  • Played this on my new Vita. Really had a lot of fun. Great metroid-vania platformer with a fun combat system and great art.

  • Pretty interesting gameplay system with some witty humor. Good game but I don't see why there was so much hype for it from the GB crew, wasn't THAT spectacular...

  • Got off to a really slow start for me, but seemed to ramp up pretty well. Probably the worst out of the series, but the others are at really high standards. Just the weird gimmicky stuff put me off like holding the vita to a bright light and constantly rubbing dirt of items. I love the series and I still had fun playing through it, though. Was pretty amazed with how much the Vita could pull off.

  • Finally got you, Olmec! Perfect game for the Vita, daily challenges are a nice addition and keep you coming back.

  • Very much a Sly Cooper game - they stuck to the same recipe as the past few. I was hoping they had changed it up a little bit, so I was a little disappointed with that. The game also seemed a bit too long and got pretty repetitive. Not a bad game, though... just would have been better if they tightened it up a little more.

  • Missed this game as a kid. Played the updated version on my Vita and really enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I played an old school Final Fantasy... really wish the new ones would take some pointers from them.

  • Interesting concept, great presentation and very beautiful game, but the overall gameplay isn't the best. Sometimes hard to tell the background vs play field, there is a lot going on the screen at once and it can be hard at times to tell when you get hit. The platforming also isn't great, but I did like the scissors aspect - much different than anything else I've tried. The game also went on a little too long.

  • Reminded a lot of Brothers- with no combat, cooperation, easy puzzles, and mystical landscapes/characters, except Rain didn't have the dual stick control scheme and more importantly it didn't have Brother's impactful ending. Still enjoyed running through the landscapes and it didn't overstay its welcome since it was only a few hours long.

  • First Persona game I've played (although I've watched the ER of P4 of course), and I am really impressed, it is such a great game and like nothing I have played before. It is probably a bit too long and the tower seemed to never end, but the combat is really fun and isn't too hard... just can get a little annoying with insta-kills. Definitely recommend checking these games out if you haven't already. Also picked up P4G, which is even greater than this one I bet!

  • Never got around playing this back in the PS1 days, but I knew I had to play it some day. It is definitely a great Castlevania game, I love all of the loot and RPG elements. I had to use a guide quite a bit, but managed to beat the "final" boss properly to open the inverted castle (although I haven't gone through that castle yet... maybe I'll run through that at some point.

  • Interesting game with great beats and music. But overall the platforming isn't that great and collecting the notes didn't seem to effect the rhythm as much as I thought it would. I do like the idea of the community levels but have only gone through a few so far... beat the campaign though.

  • Very cool FPS. I enjoyed this one just about as much as 2033. I like the atmosphere, the concept, and the graphics are beautiful. Has a pretty combination of stealth and gun play, and the pace calms down a bit when entering new towns and seeing how others are living.

  • One of the most frustrating puzzle games I have probably ever played. I really liked the story and it is a very unique game, but the block puzzles can get infuriating even on easy. And on top of that the controls certainly don't help it. I fell off so many times because I thought he was going to move where I wanted him to but then let go of the ledge and plummeted to his death. Ugh, I really wanted to like this game, but god damn those blocks.

  • Pretty good FF game. It is a lot like FFIV but with updated graphics for the DS and PSP. I didn't have to grind as much as I did in FFIV, but that last boss certainly was a bitch, especially having to beat 5 other bosses before it with NO save points. I hate it when RPGs have shitty save points, and this is probably one of the worst offenders as there are no save points... you can only save on the map.

  • I had a ton of fun with this. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, which is always a nice surprise. The neo-Paris locale with the unique futuristic memory concept was really done well. The addition of the "memory re-mixes" scenoarios were fantastic, very cool concept. The biggest downfall of the game is its pretty boring combat and dragged out boss battles. There is some potential with custom combo system but it doesn't quite refine it enough. Wish they also added a counter option rather than constantly just having to dodge away from combat. Also ran into a full glitches, the biggest when I couldn't get past the Madame boss because she wouldn't go into her next form as well as quick time prompts not showing up at the end of the battle. Overall though, the game has some great potential if they make any sequels to it as long as the refine the combat.

  • Beat it in an afternoon and really enjoyed the short physics puzzler. I've always loved the concept of eating things, getting bigger, and then being able to eat even bigger things. Very cool and you should check it out.

  • This is a pretty weird game and I didn't know what to expect from it as I never even looked as much as a screenshot of it, but I enjoyed most of it. The graphics and art are very well done, but some of the controls needed refinement and the camera would sometimes go ballistic since you are changing directions every 2 seconds. I could also never get the gravity slide controls to work well, but luckily never needed to use it anyway. There is also a part in the middle of the game where you are seriously just falling for like an hour doing pretty much nothing, so that was quite the bore. Other than that though, the game certainly has a lot of potential.

  • Fun shmup with a few extra twists. I enjoyed the puzzle-like elements of it and the pace was pretty nice. There were a few things control-wise that annoyed me: To shoot bombs you had to be moving in that direction to shoot it which would make me run into the things I was trying to shoot half of the time (would be nice if you could just use the right analog to shoot bombs in the direction you want). The other control issue I had, which wasn't that bad and is probably normal in most shmups, was the ship would move with the autoscroll even if you are in the middle of the screen... a lot of time I would warp in between security barriers or enemies and it would auto-scroll me right into my death. Other than that the game is pretty fun.

  • I only ever played bits and pieces of this game until now, and wow I can see why I never played it. It is probably one of the worst platformers I have ever played. The controls are bad, the depth is bad making it really hard to know where you are jumping, and the absolute worst part is the almost non-existent save system: the only time you can save is if you get into a bonus round and then beat that bonus round... but half the time I end up falling off since the controls suck. I have no idea why this game was so popular, Naughty Dog has certainly come a long way, though, and I hope the sequels fix all of these issues (I've heard they are much better).

  • Second playthrough. This time I played as an Orc Warhammer Warrior on the PC with all of the DLC and a few minor mods. I still absolutely love this game along with the rest of the series... Enjoyed seeing the new DLC content I missed during my first playthrough and the really fast load times on the PC.

  • (Muramasa: Rebirth - VITA). I heard a lot of good things about this game, but overall I don't see what's so great about it. The best thing about it is definitely its art, but other than that it's nothing special. The story is confusing and I wasn't fond on how they told the story either - it would take you to a separate screen where you just walked up to people and talked to them - no sort of cut scenes or other interactions. The combat was just pretty plain too, just mashing square the whole time - wish it were more like Dust: An Elysian Tale's swordplay... actually I wish the whole thing were more like Dust.

  • My first FPS experience on the Vita and was pleasantly surprised on how well it played and looked. I'm not a huge fan of military-type FPS's but enjoy playing them every once in a while, and I really liked some of the aspects of this game, the Vanguard system being a very cool addition and the gun variations were pretty good. Overall, it is still your basic FPS, but I would still recommend it for anyone looking for a FPS on the Vita.

  • (Vita version) Pretty typical cart racer, but I like the career mode with the different event types... makes it more interesting than just playing tournaments. Pretty good selection of tracks and characters as well, even though I thought having Danica Patrick as a racer was super weird. The experience points added a nice little level of progress as well, even though it would take forever to gain up all of the characters level... not that it's a bad thing. Overall it's a pretty good cart racer almost to the level of Mario Kart.

  • Always enjoy the Tales games and this is no exception, nice characters and story and pretty hectic combat but not hard to keep up. Also like that I didn't have to grind at all and the last boss wasn't like 10x harder than any previous bosses... hate it when JRPGs do that. Definitely a must play if you like the Tales games.

  • (Vita Version) This game definitely has some potential and the art is really nice, but the game itself is quite frustrating at times. The platforming barely works, I try to jump on a rail and end up careening off in some other direction. Also it's hard to tell the depth perception on trying to hit the rails as the camera is often really low. Other than that the game is pretty repetitive and has some really un-fun parts, such as the 'races', the 'combat', and running around in circles trying to tag the enemies. If they could get some more variety, remove the combat and fix the platforming, it would have been much more enjoyable.

  • I just don't know what the love for this game is. I did not enjoy this much at all. It started out pretty good. The first town was pretty fun and the combat seemed interesting. But after that, the story was so boring, everything was generic and uninteresting, characters were awful, back and forth long haul runs, and on and on. Even the combat which everyone seemed to really love got boring really quickly... and the big surprise ending really wasn't that big or interesting (yes, I played all the way to new game plus). And the collectathon at the end was the worst as well. Just such a boring and generic game.

  • Pretty fun short little platformer. Not a whole lot to say about it... the platforming wasn't all that great, but it is a remake of an old game so no surprise there really. And the kids really enjoyed watching me play it.

  • Haven't really played a tennis game since the N64 Mario one or maybe the GBA one, and I thoroughly enjoyed Hot Shots Tennis. Such a blast to play, level up characters and buy stupid outfits or accessories for them. I like there being an overarching story to the gameplay with different locales to check out. The story is of course lame, but who cares, I still love just roaming the different places and unlocking everything. Great game to have on the Vita and I wish they would make some more character driven tennis games like this and Mario tennis - easy to pick-up, fast-paced sports games are a lot of fun.

  • (PS Vita) It's an alright little platformer, not a whole lot to say about it. The platforming and hovering was ok but certainly not the best and some of the instant deaths got a little annoying at times. I did like the multiple layers you could go in and out of (jump to the background or foreground) and how some of the obstacles would go back and forth between them.

  • (PS Vita) Golf on the Vita!!! Pretty typical HSG game but absolutely love having it on the Vita.

  • It's been quite a long time since I played Chrono Cross and it holds up pretty well. Played it on the Vita and seemed to have some low frame rate issues (don't know if this was true of the original or not). Forgot how different the combat and party system worked, but was overall pretty easy to learn even though I never bothered using some aspects like the field color or trying out all of the several characters. It's also weird there is practically no leveling/experience system other than the stars (story-based level ups) and a few random micro-level ups. They definitely tried a lot of different innovations for a JRPG, so I got to hand it to them for that... even if some of those systems weren't great. Overall a pretty good JRPG though, obviously not as good as Chrono Trigger... but I never really saw them as trying to be alike anyway.

  • Pretty decent Trials clone, nothing spectacular or much to say about it though.

  • (Vita) Guess I technically beat it. Not really a whole lot to it, but I can see some people liking the sereneness to it.

  • Pretty interesting puzzle platformer that takes some advantage of the vita features... but maybe a little too much so (like in a level where you have to match colors to your camera). Nothing too extraordinary from this game but was a good time waster for a day. Sometimes got a little confusing trying to figure out what all of the little pieces did - it didn't quite explain clearly what certain actions would make which block do its action - you just had to randomly play around until you figured out what each block did and then try to figure out the puzzle. Also seemed to have a slight FEZ vibe to it as well, which I'm ok with.

  • (HD Version - Vita) Second time playing through MGS 2. The mechanics and some camera angles are clunky, but still a must play game.

  • Pretty cool action game and the Metal Gear universe is always an interesting one. The cutting aspect is pretty neat and the high-action is fun to watch. Wish the blocking was on a separate button and I missed a lot of blocks I thought I should have had, but other than that, it was a pretty fun game.

  • Pretty average action adventure game but has some good potential. Biggest issues were the camera angles, fights were pretty meaningless, and the stealth wasn't great (but it wasn't hard either so it was manageable). Looking forward to the sequel though as it does have potential.

  • Fun and quirky. Sometimes really hard to see the action though.

  • (PS4) Definitely the best GTA game

This is a really good idea, even just for your own benefit.

Thanks! It definitely helps me keep track of the games I've played throughout the years... if it ever becomes useful data for anything else... most likely not.
